The North Atlantic Conference (NAC), a Division III athletic conference in the New England Region, is seeking full and associate members. Effective fall 2007, the conference will be comprised of 11 full members and 5 associate members from Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont and New Hampshire. The NAC sponsors championships in 14 sports, 10 of which have access to the NCAA Tournament via the Automatic Qualifier. The conference Student Athlete Advisory Council plays a vital role in guiding conference policy and the NCAA strategic grant program will be used to provide an even greater access to educational programming for the student-athletes. The North Atlantic Conference has experienced considerable growth throughout the past several years and has exhibited its commitment to continuing progress most recently by hiring a conference staff including a commissioner and a coordinator of sports communication to support and enhance membership services.
Following a period of rapid membership growth from 1999-2002, the NAC Presidents' Council had imposed a membership moratorium in 2003 as the conference began an extensive evaluation and strategic planning process. The conference has developed a clear vision for its future and in light of this progress, the Presidents' Council voted in May 2006 to lift the moratorium and begin considering potential future members that fit this vision.
A letter of official notification was sent in September of 2006 to NCAA Division III institutions and those in the provisional/transitional phase, of the NAC's intent to accept applications for potential full members in our competitive region. We invite schools who embrace the Division III philosophy and exhibit a strong commitment to quality academic and athletic experiences for its student-athletes to consider potential membership in our conference. The application form for both full and associate membership is below. Please contact Julie Muller, Commissioner should you have any questions.
