Maine Maritime Academy is a co-educational, public college on the coast of Maine offering 18 degree programs in engineering, management, science, and transportation. One of only six State Maritime Academies providing specialized maritime education and training in the U.S., Maine Maritime Academy is highly regarded for its practical, hands-on approach, and the global reputation of its graduates. Located in historic Castine, Maine in a spectacular coastal setting, Maine Maritime was established in 1941 and has grown to serve approximately 950 students in accredited STEM-related, career-oriented programs.

Nearly 60% of MMA students pursue a US Coast Guard license and major in marine engineering, nautical science, or marine transportation. These students are also members of the Regiment of Midshipmen. All students have the option to participate in the regiment, regardless of their major.
Opportunities for practical application of classroom theory include sea time aboard the 500-foot training ship State of Maine; classes aboard the tug Pentagoet and several research vessels; navigation training on the Susan J. Clark, a floating navigation laboratory; and simulated navigation exercises using bridge and other simulation technology.
Maritime Academy was ranked the #1 Best Public College on Money magazine’s Best Colleges list released in August, 2014. The college’s persistence, retention and graduation rates are well above national averages, and the job placement rate is in excess of 90 percent within 90 days of graduation.
