Four NAC Baseball Student-Athletes Earn ABCA/Rawlings & NEIBA Honors
The North Atlantic Conference (NAC) placed four baseball student-athletes on the 2018 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-Region Teams and on the 2018 New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) Division III All-New England Teams, as announced on Wednesday morning.
NEC pitcher Nick Powers (Malden, Mass.) earned first team honors for both organizations, while NEC teammate, third baseman Xavier Nunez (Lawrence, Mass.), and Lyndon's Andre Eason Jr. (Waterbury, Conn.) were second team honorees on both all-region teams and Castleton's Davis Mikell (Williston, Vt.) was recognized on the third team as a first baseman.
Powers finished the 2018 season with an 8-0 record and a 0.99 ERA, tying him for the second lowest in all of NCAA DIII and led the NAC. He threw five complete games with 63.2 innings pitched while striking out 64 batters. Nunez led the Pilgrims with a .403 batting average which ranked second in the NAC. He also drove in 43 runs which led the NAC.
Eason, the Hornets starting center fielder this season, led the NAC with a .411 batting average, dorve in 34 runs and collected 12 extra base hits, including nine doubles, and defensively, he recorded 84 putouts and 4 assists against only one error in center field.
Mikell batted .371 with a .522 on-base percentage and a .579 slugging percentage. He collected 52 hits, including 12 doubles, one triple, and five home runs, plus he scored 43 runs, drove in 36 runs, and drew 35 walks. In all of Division III, Mikell is 27 in walks and 28 in on-base percentage. At first base, Mikell was perfect, not making an error in 253 total chances.
