NAC Men's Golf Weekly Honors (Week Ending October 9)

GOLFER OF THE WEEK

Chad Alibozek, Salem State
(Sr. - Adams, Mass.)

Alibozek took home medalist honors at the MASCAC Championships, which was played at the Berkshire Hills Country Club last Tuesday. The senior shot a one over par, 73, to claim first and help his team earn the 2017 MASCAC Championship Title, as the Vikings turned in a team score of 305 to outdistance Westfield State by seven shots. On the front nine, the long hitter shot two over par, 37, before heating up on the back nine. He parred the first two holes on the inward nine before birdieing the par 4, 12th hole and the difficult par 5, 15th hole. He would make a great par save on 16 before having routine pars on the last two holes to shoot his 73.  

 
 

 

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Eric Dugas, Husson
(Fr. - Pittsfield, Maine)

Dugas finished in fourth place with a score of 72 (+1) at the USM Fall Classic. He helped Husson finish in first with a team score of 286 (+2), which was 28 shots better than the next opponent. 

 

 

 

 

AROUND THE NAC

Castleton finished eighth at the Southern Maine Fall Classic, reduced to one round Sunday after Monday's final round was cancelled. The Spartans placed two golfers, Jon Benson and Jordan Ayer, in the top 12. Castleton now prepares for the NAC Championships next Sunday and Monday, October 15-16, in Pittsfield, Mass. 

UMaine-Farmington competed twice this past week. At the Maine Maritime Invitational, UMF took second place with a 313, as Eric Aguiar and Mike Richards finished third and fourth with a 76 and a 77. Then at the USM Invitational, day two was cancelled, as the Beavers finished in seventh with a 326. UMF will tee off on Sunday at the NAC Championship.

Green Mountain was idle this week as it prepared for the NAC Championships this coming weekend.

Husson finished in first place at the USM Fall Classic with a score of 286 (+2), which was 28 shots better than the closest opponent. Day two of the tournament was canceled due to rain. The Eagles will return to the course Sunday, October 15, for the NAC Championship at the Berkshire Hills Country Club in Pittsfield, Mass.

Johnson was off this week as they prepare for the NAC Championship on Sunday and Monday.

MCLA finished third in the MASCAC championships before placing 15th in the Elms Invite. The Trailblazers were paced by Reese Dwyer's 81 in the MASCAC championship as they prepare to host the NAC championships this weekend at Berkshire Hills.

Maine Maritime was led by Joey Moir (Bangor, Maine) at Thursday's Mariner Invitational. Moir finished second overall, helping MMA to a fourth place finish. On Sunday, the Mariners finished third at the Colby College Classic. The Mariners return to action on Sunday and Monday's North Atlantic Conference Championship.

UMaine-Presque Isle continue to improve, but finished eighth in the Mariner Invitational this past week. The young team is looking forward to the NAC Championships on the 15th and 16th.

Salem State swept both the team and individual honors at the 2017 MASCAC Championship hosted by MCLA and Berkshire Hills Country Club in Pittsfield, MA. The Vikings turned in a team score of 305 to outdistance Westfield State by seven shots. Viking senior Chad Alibozek (Adams, Mass.) took home medalist honors with a one over par score of 73. Alibozek led all five Vikings, who all shot 79 or better. Salem State will now prepare for the NAC Championships this coming weekend.
