NAC Men's Lacrosse Weekly Honors (Week Ending March 5)

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Matt Richard, New England College
(Jr., A - Weare, N.H.)

Richard dished out an impressive nine assists and netted one goal in the Pilgrims' tough 12-11 season opening loss at UMass-Boston and was just one assist shy of tying a 30-year old NEC school record for assists in a game. Against Mount Ida, the junior scored one goal, earned two assists and scooped up one ground ball. On the week, the attacker finished with 13 points on two goals and 11 assists. 

 

 

 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Brandon Myron, Castleton
(So., G - Troy, N.Y.)

Myron made his first-ever collegiate start in net for the Spartans and finished with an impressive 14 saves in a tough loss to Plattsburgh State, a team that continually put pressure on him. The career-high performance was the sophomore's first complete game recorded as the Castleton goalkeeper.

 

 

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Jacob Blanchette, New England College
(Fr., A - Weare, N.H.)

Blanchette posted a hat-trick in his collegiate debut in a tough 12-11 loss to UMass Boston, netting his three goals on five shots, all of which were on-target. The rookie also recorded one ground ball and caused a turnover in the one-goal loss. The attacker then tallied one goal, two assists, and one caused turnover against Mount Ida to bring his weekly points total to six.

 

 

 

 

AROUND THE NAC

Castleton opened the season with a tough 20-7 loss at Plattsburgh State. Sam Siegel and Jason Sedell led the Spartans with two goals apiece, while Louis Alhage earned two assists. Castleton enters a busy stretch with the first of two straight weeks with three games, as the team will host Curry (March 7), face St. Lawrence in a neutral-site match (March 8), and then host Southern Maine (March 11). 

Green Mountain w started the 2017 season with two tough losses to Anna Maria and Daniel Webster. The Eagles will look to rebound when they take on Purchase Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

Husson opened the season with a tough road loss at Curry College. The Eagles' second scheduled game of the season that was set for Saturday, March 4, against Emerson was postponed due to weather. The team will travel to Rivier today, Monday, March 6, and have their home opener against Wheelock on Wednesday, March 8. 

Johnson State will open the 2017 season on Saturday, March 11, as the Badgers take on Becker at Saint Michael's College at 1:00 p.m.

Lyndon started the 2017 season with a 1-1 record over the week in non-conference action. Early in the week, the Hornets fell 11-4 to SUNY-Cobleskill, but rebounded with a 9-5 victory over Houghton. Konner Bick scored four goals against Houghton, while Spencer Aubin collected four goals over the two contests. On Saturday, March 11, the squad will be traveling to Anna Maria for a 1:00 p.m. matchup.

Maine Maritime dropped its season opener against Gordon on February 22. The Mariners will take on Southern Maine on Monday, before hosting SUNY Maritime and Mass. Maritime this coming weekend for the Maritime Classic.

New England College, the defending NAC champions, opened the season on a rocky start being edged 12-11 in the season opener at UMass Boston and then fell to Mount Ida, 14-8. Senior Matt Richard dished out an impressive nine assists in the season opener and finished the week with 13 points from two goals and 11 assists. Freshman Jake Blanchette recorded a hat-trick in his collegiate debut. NEC hosts Norwich on Wednesday for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference game before traveling to Virginia Beach for games against Wheaton and Plattsburgh. 

Thomas was picked to finish sixth in the 2017 NAC Men's Lacrosse Preseason Coaches' Poll that was released over the week. The Terriers will open their season on Wednesday, March 8, as they travel to Emerson for a 6:00 p.m. non-conference matchup.
