Castleton's Doton & Gosselin Receive NEILA All-Academic Honors
Castleton University graduates Edward Doton (Barnard, Vt.) and Josh Gosselin (Barre, Vt.), teammates on the Spartan men's lacrosse team for the past four years, received Academic All-New England recognition from the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA), announced Monday by the organization.
Doton and Gosselin are two of 46 student-athletes from 20 different Division III institutions who met the criteria of having senior standing with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and of being at least a nominee for All-Conference selection. Doton completed his bachelor's degree in history while Gosselin received his bachelor's degree in business management.
Doton received Second Team All-NAC recognition after leading the Spartan defense in holding opponents to 8.46 goals per game, including just 4.29 goals per conference match. Doton led Castleton with 25 caused turnovers, including three caused turnovers in victories over Southern Maine and Thomas College. He earned at least one caused turnover in 17 of 18 games this past season and finished his Castleton career with 69 caused turnovers, fourth on the all-time list.
Gosselin was voted First Team All-NAC for the third consecutive year thanks to his prowess in the face-off circle, as he is 17th in the country in face-off winning percentage at .667 (242-for-363), his third consecutive top-20 finish in that category. Gosselin, the team MVP, posted a perfect 1.000 face-off percentage twice in 2018: against Maine Maritime on March 31 (11-for-11) and against Thomas on April 14 (23-for-23), collecting the third-highest total of face-off wins without a loss in Division III this season.
The Castleton University men's lacrosse team finished the 2018 season with a 10-8 overall record, its 13th consecutive year with at least 10 victories. The Spartans finished second in the North Atlantic Conference regular season standings at 6-1 and advanced to the NAC Tournament championship match for the 15th consecutive season.
