Colby-Sawyer Men's Tennis Falls to Wilkes, 5-3, in NCAA First Round

The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team was defeated by Wilkes, 5-3, in the NCAA First Round on Friday afternoon at Middlebury's Proctor Tennis Courts.
Wilkes (21-5) will play the host Panthers on Saturday. Colby-Sawyer ends its season at 9-11.
Colby-Sawyer took a 2-1 lead after doubles play. After Wilkes won at No. 2 to get on the board first, Colby-Sawyer senior Gustav Jigrup and freshman Nick Mathieu teamed to beat Courtney Murphy and Jonathan White by an 8-5 score at No. 1. The Chargers then took a 2-1 lead by winning at No. 3 doubles. The duo of senior Andrew Peloquin and junior Alex Wright defeated Andrew Neidig and Larry Scartz, 8-4.
The Colonels began their comeback in singles action by putting a second point in the win column from Chris Maderitz. He defeated Cam Lynch 6-3, 6-0 at the fifth flight to pull the match even.
Alex Wright gave Colby-Sawyer the lead back with an impressive 6-2, 6-4 victory over White in the third slot.
Wilkes would then take No. 2, No. 6 and No. 1 in straight sets to secure the 5-3 victory.
One match went unfinished as Colby-Sawyer's Peloquin won the first set 7-6 (7-5) and led 3-0 in the second set of his No. 4 match.
