Softball Weekly Honors for April 25
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Julie Benzenberg, Castleton
(Sr., DP - Pine Bush, N.Y.)
Benzenberg went 10-for-17 (.588) at the plate to help Castleton to
a 5-1 week versus Cobleskill, Green Mountain, and Johnson State.
The senior slugged an astounding 1.294 with three home runs and
three doubles. She also drove in nine runs, scored five and posted
a .611 on base percentage.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Taylor Lively, Castleton
(So., SP - Greenfield, Mass.)
Lively was a perfect 4-0 in five appearances this week, including
three complete-games and one shutout. The sophomore right-hander
pitched 22 innings, allowed three runs (all unearned) and just nine
hits while walking three. Lively posted 35 strikeouts, better than
1.5 per inning, and held her opponents to just a .114 batting
average.
Co-ROOKIES OF THE WEEK
Tori Fearon, Castleton
(Fr., OF - Colchester, Conn.)
Fearon proved to be nearly impossible to get out this week, as
Castleton went 5-1. The freshman outfielder went 13-for-18 (.722)
with three triples and two doubles. Fearon also scored nine runs
and drove in 11, while posting an on base percentage of .737 and a
slugging percentage of 1.167.
Erica Taylor, Maine Maritime
Academy
(Freshman, Pitcher - Mesquite, TX)
Taylor helped MMA to a 3-1 week with two quality starts including
one that resulted in MMA snapping Huson's 36 game NAC winning
streak. Taylor pitched five innings against Husson allowing 7 hits,
0 walks, and two earned runs while striking out three. In her next
start against UMF Taylor picked up a win going seven innings,
allowing just three hits, one walk, and one earned run while
striking out nine.
Softball Weekly Honors for April 18
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Courtney Hill, Husson
(SO, Outfield - Calais, ME)
Sophomore outfielder Courtney Hill helped the Eagles go 3-2 on the week. Hill batted .533 (8 for 15) on the week, with 2 walks, an RBI, 4 stolen bases, a double and 7 runs scored. She picked up 2 hits against Division I opponent University of Maine, where she went 2 for 3 and scored a run.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Sara Pavento, Thomas
(Jr, P - Glenburn, Maine)
The junior pitched in 19 innings, giving up 16 hits, 11runs, eight earned runs, four walks, nine strike outs, one home run, and threw a no hitter vs. Green Mountain on Saturday.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Samantha Pothier, Johnson State College
(Fr., IF/OF - Enosburg Falls, Vt.)
Samantha Pothier had a strong weekend at the plate despite Johnson experiencing four NAC road-losses by going 7-11 (.636), driving in five runs, and scoring once. Pothier went 6-7 with five RBI in the Badgers doubleheader at Maine Maritime on Sunday.
Softball Weekly Honors for April 11
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Shannon Jipner, Castleton
(Jr., 3B - Bristol, Vt.)
Jipner led the Castleton offense to a 5-3 week, batting .522 (12-23) with five homeruns and two doubles. The junior third-baseman slugged 1.261 and posted a .593 on base percentage, drove in 16 runs and scored 13 more. Trailing 1-0 on Sunday in the sixth inning versus Maine Maritime, Jipner smacked a two-run homer to give Castleton the lead heading into the seventh, before the Mariners rallied for two runs and the win.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Kody Lyon, Husson
(SO, P - Dalton, NH)
Sophomore pitcher Kody Lyon picked up 3 wins on the week, helping the Eagles go 4-0 in conference play this weekend. Lyon had 13 strikeouts, gave up no runs and allowed just 3 hits in 9 innings of work.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Kelly Naegelin, Husson
(FY, P/DP - Cohasset, MA)
Freshman pitcher and designated player, Kelly Naegelin went 7 for 11 (.636) at the plate this weekend to help the Eagles earn 4 conference victories. She racked up 9 RBI's, had 2 homeruns, a double, a walk and scored 5 runs. From the mound she pitched 3 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Chelsea Paul, Green Mountain College
(SO, SS - Northville, NY)
Short-stop Chelsea Paul rapped out 11 hits in 16 plate appearances, leading Green Mountain to a 2-2 week. The sophomore drove in a pair of runs, drilled three doubles and collected six put-outs against Southern Vermont and Bay Path. Paul is hitting .688 with a .706 OBP and a .875 slugging percentage.

Kelly Naegelin, Husson
(FY, P/DP - Cohasset, MA)
Freshman pitcher and designated player Kelly Naegelin went 5 for 14 at the plate this week (.357) with 2 doubles, 2 RBI's and one walk. She also earned a win for the Eagles over University of Southern Maine, pitching 4 complete innings, giving up no hits and striking out 4. Allowed just 3 hits in 3 innings of work, giving up 2 earned runs to the Eagles loss to Division I opponent University of Maine.

Softball Weekly Honors for March 28
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Caitlin Mackey, Johnson State College
(So., LF/P - St. Albans, Vt./BFA-St. Albans)
Sophomore Caitlin Mackey had a stellar weekend at the plate while sparking Johnson State to their first victory in a doubleheader split with Bay Path College. Mackey went 5-for-6 in the two games with four runs scored, three doubles, two runs batted in, two stolen bases, and two walks.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Meghan Gadapee, Lyndon
(Freshman, Pitcher/Outfield - Littleton, New Hampshire)
Gadapee raised her record to 3-0 on the season with a 4-2 extra-inning victory over Mitchell Saturday in the opener of the Hornets' scheduled doubleheader. The right-hander scattered allowed only two earned runs in the contest while striking out six and walking none. In the nightcap, Gadapee raised her batting average to .462 by pounding out three hits in a 14-13 setback to the Mariners.

Softball Weekly Honors for March 21
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Julie Benzenberg, Castleton
(Sr., DH - Pine Bush, N.Y.)
Benzenberg provided plenty of pop in a 2-2 weekend for Castleton,
socking four home runs and driving in eight runs for the Spartans.
Benzneberg went 1-for-2 at Coast Guard on Saturday, before
exploding for a career-day at the dish in a sweep of Wentworth. The
senior DH batted .600 (6-10) with four runs scored, slugging an
impressive 1.800 in three games.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Emily Sweeney, Castleton
(So., P - Weare, N.H.)
Sweeney went 1-1 on the week, allowing just one earned run over 11
innings. On Saturday, the sophomore hurler was the tough-luck loser
in a 3-2 loss to #12 Coast Guard allowing just on earned run on
five hits in six innings. On Saturday, Sweeney notched her second
career shutout in a 16-0 win over Wentworth. Sweeney scattered
three hits, while striking out five in the five-inning, mercy-rule
win.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Kelly Naegelin, Husson
(FY, P - Cohasset, MA)
Kelly excelled offensively and at the rubber for Husson as they
opened up play in Tuscon, Arizona. At the plate, she batted .321 (9
for 28) including 4 walks and 2 doubles, she added 5 RBI and 2 runs
scored. Kelly went 4-4 with 3 RBI in a 9-5 win over Lakeland. From
the mound, she saw action in 5 games, throwing 20 innings for the
Eagles. Kelly allowed just 7 earned runs and recorded 13 strikeouts
and finished the week with a 2.45 ERA.
