    CASTLETON, Vt. – Angelica Mazzola (Centerport, N.Y.) scored four goals and handed out a pair of assists to lead eight different Spartan scorers as Castleton State College downed SUNY-Morrisville 18-11 in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Women’s Lacrosse Championship Saturday afternoon at Spartan Stadium.

    Mazzola was a catalyst to Castleton's NAC East championship run, earning MVP honors for the tournament. The senior midfielder tallied 10 points and keyed the Spartan possession game. The Spartans will host West Division Champion Morrisville State Saturday at 12 noon to determine who will represent the NAC in the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

    Castleton swept this week's honors, as the Spartans remained unbeaten in NAC East play with three victories including a pivotal win over previously unbeaten New England College. Angelica Mazzola was a catalyst on both sides of the ball, posting 11 points and 18 draw controls to earn Player of the Week honors. Kate Auer posted 10 goals, including five in the all-important win over NEC and was named Rookie of the Week.

Abi Staab proved to be the difference for Husson in a one-goal win over Green Mountain, pumping in five goals and assisting on another to earn Rookie of the Week accolades.

    New England College swept this week's awards as the Pilgrims went 2-1 thanks in large part to the efforts of Player of the Week Amanda Naimie and Rookie of the Week Emily Bamberger. Naimie finished the week with an impressive 20 points and 15 ground balls, while Bamberger collected 12 points in the three games.

  • Castleton Picked to Win NAC East Division Women's Lacrosse Title

    Castleton State College has been chosen to win the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) East Division Championship in a preseason poll of the conference coaches. The Spartans received four first-place votes and 42 total points, narrowly edging Colby-Sawyer (40) and Husson (39).
