NAC Weekly Honors (9/23/19 - 9/29/19)

 

 

MEN'S GOLF

Player of the Week

  Jacob Erwin, Castleton University
 
Senior - Port Dover, Ontario


Erwin put on a show at the MCLA Trailblazer Invitational Tuesday morning, firing off a one-over-par 73 to claim individual medalist honors. After finishing in a tie for the lowest score of the day with Roger Williams' Ryan Burrill, the two dueled to another tie in a two-hole playoff. Erwin was named the individual champion based on back-nine scores, which he shot one-under par.

 

 

 


Rookie of the Week

 Chris Kauppila, Husson
First-year - Newburgh, Maine


Kauppila shot one-over par and tied for second place on the first day of competition at the Farmingdale State Invitational. He carded a 149 (71-78) overall to finish the invite in a four-way tie for 7th. Kauppila led his team with the lowest two-round score and finished ahead of 50 other golfers from 12 different schools.

 

 

 

 

MEN'S SOCCER

Player of the Week

Matt Caron, Maine Maritime
Senior, F - Scarborough, Maine

Caron recorded seven points in the Mariners' 2-0 week. First he tallied the game-winning goal and two assists in the Mariners' 7-0 shutout over Unity on Monday. He then scored the equalizer, and took the throw in that led to the game-winning goal, in the team's 2-1 conference win over UMaine-Farmington.

 

 

 

 


Defensive Player of the Week

Jack Davis, Maine Maritime
Senior, D - Belfast, Maine

Davis was an instrumental member of the Mariner defense that held opponents to just one goal, and seven shots on goal, in two games. He led the Mariners in a 7-0 shutout over Unity early in the week, and then displayed impressive goal line defense to preserve the lead in a 2-1 conference win over UMaine-Farmington on Saturday.

 

 

  


 Rookie of the Week

Shayne O'Neill, SUNY Canton
First-year F - Dannemora, New York

O'Neill scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season in a high-scoring 6-3 NAC win at SUNY Delhi on Saturday. With the win, the Roos vaulted into first place in the standings with nine points (3-1).  

 

 

 

 

 

WOMEN'S SOCCER

Player of the Week

Kelsea Anair, Maine Maritime
Senior, D - Richmond, Maine

Anair was key to the Mariners' 2-0 week. She led the defensive line in a 7-0 shutout win over Unity on Monday. On Saturday, Anair was instrumental on both sides of the ball in a 2-1 win over UMaine-Farmington. She tallied the game winning goal in the second half, after setting up the first goal in the first minute of the game.

 

 


 Defensive Player of the Week

Rachael Scoones, SUNY Delhi
Sophomore, GK - Waterville, New York

Scoones made a career-high 20 saves against a high-shooting Lycoming team on Tuesday. She also tallied six saves in 3-0 shutout of NAC opponenent SUNY Canton on Saturday.

 

 

  


 Rookie of the Week

Laura Blue, Maine Maritime
First-year, F - Brisbane, Australia

Blue helped lead the Mariners to a 2-0 week. She contributed a goal in the team's 7-0 shutout win over Unity on Monday, and then scored in the first minute of a 2-1 win over UMaine-Farmington on Saturday.

 

 

 

 

 

WOMEN'S TENNIS

Player of the Week

Ashley Matlock, Husson
Sophomore - Caribou, Maine


Matlock led her team to a 9-0 victory over Thomas College and 7-2 triumph over Lesley College this past week. The sophomore won #1 singles matches in both contests, giving up only a single point to the Terriers. Paired up with Nicci Munroe as the #2 doubles, the duo defeated a pair of Terriers, 8-1, and a pair of Lynx, 8-0. Husson heads into the NAC East Division Championship this weekend undefeated in conference matches.

 

 

 


Rookie of the Week

Summer Lamphrey, Lesley
First-year - Webster, Massachusetts


Lamphrey continued her impressive rookie campaign with a 4-0 week in conference play. Against top-ranked Husson, Lamphrey scored both points in the 7-2 loss. She won #3 doubles with Morgan Anderson 8-4, and won #4 singles 6-2, 1-6, 6-2. Lamphrey led the Lynx to a 7-2 win against Thomas with wins at #3 doubles (8-2) and #4 singles, sweeping Cassidy Hamm by a score of 6-0, 6-0.

 

 

 

 

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL

Player of the Week

Jessica D'Auria, Maine Maritime
Junior, OH - Hopewell Junction, New York

D'Auria tallied 28 kills (2.80 k/s), 18 digs (1.80 d/s), and seven aces in the Mariners 1-2 week against a trio of challenging non-conference opponents. D'Auria tallied a match-high 13 kills in the Mariners first straight-set victory over Bates College since 2011, and added seven digs and an ace. Against No. 24 Tufts, the junior outside hitter tallied five kills, five digs, and four aces. In the team's 3-1 loss to Bowdoin College, D'Auria tallied 10 kills, six digs and two aces.

 

 


Defensive Player of the Week

Maria Perez, Maine Maritime
Senior, L - San Juan, Puerto Rico

Perez was impressive in the Mariners' 1-2 week, totaling 40 digs (4.00 d/s), four assists and three aces. The senior libero tallied 11 digs in the team's first straight-set victory over Bates College since 2011, and also contributed an ace and an assist. In a tough 3-0 loss to No. 24 Tufts, Perez recorded a match-high 15 digs (5.00 d/s) and an assist, and followed that up with 14 digs, two aces and two assists against a tough Bowdoin College team.

 

 

  


 Rookie of the Week

Lexi Taylor, SUNY Delhi
First-year, OH - Norwich, New York

Taylor had an impressive week, totalling 38 digs (4.75 d/s), 14 points, 13 kills (1.63 k/s), two assists and one service ace. In a four-set loss to Mount St. Mary, she notched 13 digs, three kills and an assist. Then in a four-set win against Mitchell, the rookie logged a double-double with 25 digs (6.25 d/s) and 10 kills (2.5 k/s), while also logging two assists.

 

 

 

 

 

 This is the final week of honors for Women's Tennis. Cross Country honors are released on Tuesdays throughout the season.
