Colby-Sawyer Captures Second-Straight NAC Volleyball Title
NEW LONDON, N.H. - Top-seeded Colby-Sawyer College put the finishing touches on a perfect North Atlantic Conference (NAC) season with a 3-0 win over number-three Maine Maritime Academy in Saturday afternoon's tournament final at Coffin Fieldhouse.
Colby-Sawyer, who improves to 18-13, won by scores of 25-13, 25-11 and 25-20. Maine Maritime falls to 13-12.
The Chargers will make a trip to the NCAA for the fifth time in school history and will find out Monday at 11:00 am where their will travel and who they will play. Colby-Sawyer was led by conference player of the year and NAC tournament MVP Jackie Keating (Marshfield, Mass.). She hit .462 and recorded seven kills on the heels of 18 kills in the semifinals. Freshman setter Laura Smolinski (Hebron, Conn.) recorded a match best 42 assists and earned a nod to the All-Tournament team. Junior Ally Le-Bruno, who also was named to the All-Tournament team had 11 digs and surpassed 2000 for her career. Junior Emilee McBride (Strafford, N.H.) hit .533 and had 10 kills, while junior Courtney O'Hara (Mystic, Conn.) had 12 kills. Sophomore Stephanie Vecchio (Shelter Island, N.Y.) hit .438 and had nine kills.
Maine Maritime was led by junior Ariel Knights (Brookton, Maine.). She recorded a team-high five kills. Senior setter Jennifer Dixon (Woodstock, Md.) collected 10 assists and was recognized on the All-Tournament team. Sophomore Sydney Robertson (Barnstead, N.H.) had three kills and a team-high two aces. Robertson also was named All-Tournament team.

Colby-Sawyer College finished the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Women's Volleyball season a perfect 7-0 in league play, and has earned the top seed in the upcoming NAC Championship. The Chargers (14-13 overall) have earned a bye through the first round, and will host the semifinal and final rounds on Friday and Saturday November 2 and 3.
Husson University (15-9 overall, 6-1 NAC) finished second in the league standings and has also earned a bye to the semifinal round.
Maine Maritime Academy (10-10 overall, 4-3 NAC) has earned the third seed in the tournament and will host sixth-seeded University of at Maine-Farmington (5-16 overall, 2-5 NAC) on Saturday in a first-round match-up.
Fourth-seeded Castleton (8-10 overall, 4-3 NAC) will host the other first-round match versus fifth-seeded Green Mountain (7-13 overall, 4-3 NAC).
First round games will be played on Saturday, October 27 at the higher seed. Winners will advance to the semifinals held at Colby-Sawyer on Friday, November 2. Semifinal game times for Friday are 6:00 pm and 8:00 p.m. with the championship on Saturday, November 3 at 12:00 p.m.
The NAC Champion receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Championship.
