Colby-Sawyer freshman Abbie Sansoucy (Douglas, Mass.) scored the lone goal of the game late in the second half to lift the Chargers to a third straight North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Women's Soccer title over intrastate rival New England College.
The Chargers (13-3-2) will make a trip to the NCAA tournament for the third time in school history and will find out Monday at 1:00 p.m. where they will travel and who they will play. The Division III Women's Soccer selection show can be seen at NCAA.com or by selecting this link http://www.ncaa.com/liveschedule/2015/11/09.
Two weeks ago when the Pilgrims came to New London, the Chargers were able to escape with a 2-1 victory. Sansoucy scored both of the goals in the game.
The lone goal of the contest came at 72:57 when Sansoucy came out of a pile of players with the ball. Sansoucy side-stepped the danger and fired a shot into the cross corner of the goal for her fourth tally and second game-winner of the season. Sansoucy was named NAC Tournament MVP.
The first half was a battle of field position as each side tried to possess the ball. There were just five total shots taken in the first 45 minutes with most of the action coming in the middle third of the pitch.
The offense turned up in the second half with a total of 18 shots taken. Each side a couple of nice scoring opportunities but the goalies were up to the task until Sansoucy broke through late in the frame.
Colby-Sawyer senior goalie Karley Hamilton (Bradford, Vt.) was named to the All-Tournament team after making three saves today and collecting her second shutout of the tournament. Junior Mackenzie Meegan (Phoenix, Ariz.) had eight saves for the Pilgrims.
