Husson's Taylor Shaw netted two goals to help propel the Eagles to their second-consecutive North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Field Hockey Championship with a 2-0 win over UMaine-Farmington on Saturday afternoon at Winkin Sports Complex.
In the first half, Husson (8-9) and UMaine-Farmington (10-5) had numerous scoring chances but the game remained scoreless going into intermission.
Shaw gave the Eagles the lead in the 39th minute when she found the back of the net off a great pass from Taylor Lovely.
The Eagles extended their lead to two goals seven minutes later when Libby Kain's shot attempt defected off UMaine-Farmington's keeper Patty Smith right to the stick of Olivia Plaisted and she passed it over to Shaw who tipped it in for her second of the game.
Smith registered eleven saves in the lost. Anne Marie Provencal made seven saves to pick up her second shut out and her third win on the season. Husson has not allowed a goal to UMaine-Farmington in the last four matchups.
Whitney Arno recorded two defensive saves in the win for the Eagles.
The Eagles outshot the Beavers 19-14 and took the advantage on penalty corners, 14-8.
Husson midfielder Mikayla Toth was named the Most Valuable Player and she is joined on the all-tournament team with her teammates Kain, Abigial Simmons, Shaw and Provencal; UMaine-Farmington's Delainey Kein, Emmah Spahr and Smith; Thomas's Emily Leighton and Caitlin Poulin; and Colby-Sawyer's Taylor O'Connor and Courtney Andrews.
Husson advances to the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship Tournament after reciving the NAC automatic bid. This is the fifth time in program history the Egales will make a national appearance.

Beginning in the 2016-17 season, the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) will partner with the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) in the sport of field hockey. Three NEAC full member schools will compete as associate members of the NAC. Members from each conference will be divided into an East (NAC) and West (NEAC) Division, with each division holding a championship and the two divisional champions then facing off to determine the conference champion.
