Husson Wins NAC East Women's Tennis Championship

Portland, Maine - Husson University defeated NVU-Johnson, 5-0, for the 2020-21 NAC East Women's Tennis Championship. The match, held at Apex Racket & Fitness in Portland, Maine, was played to decision.

Husson got out to a hot start with three doubles wins. The #1 pair of Hannah Malinen and Natalie Tilton defeated Mason Lores and Becca Simon, 8-4. Eagles Kayla Hammond and Nicole Mooney won the #2 doubles match, 8-0, over Badgers Nicci Munroe and Molly Chicoine. The third doubles pair of Marissa Brown and Jocelyn Bell won their match, 8-1, against Annika Dyhrberg and Mia Blackwell.

The Eagles would only need two singles wins to take the match, which came from #2 Hannah Malinen (6-0, 6-2) and #3 Julia O'Leary (6-4, 6-2). O'Leary was named the tournament MVP.

Despite the loss, NVU-Johnson will represent the NAC East Division in a crossover match with the NAC West (NEAC) champions of Penn St. Harrisburg for the automatic qualification bid to the NCAA Women's Tennis tournament. That match will be scheduled early in the week.
