Rachel Melampy, Maine Maritime

Outside hitter Rachel Melampy closed out the 2022 regular season with a pair of double-digit kill performances in two matches while hitting .389 over six sets to lead Maine Maritime women’s volleyball to a pair of East Division wins. To the open the week, Melampy tallied 16 kills on 24 error-free swings with three aces and six digs in the Mariners’ three-set win over Husson University. She recorded 19.5 points in the match. Melampy followed up with 11 kills, three aces, and three total blocks in MMA’s three-set triumph over UMaine-Presque Isle. She completed the double-double with 11 digs. For the week., Melampy averaged 4.50 kills/set and 5.92 points/set.
Defensive Player of the Week
Makenna Middleton, Maine Maritime

Defensive specialist Makenna Middleton sprawled for 18 digs over six sets in two matches to lead Maine Maritime to a pair of NAC East Division victories. Middleton turned up seven digs in the Mariners’ three-set win over Husson, and put away one kill in the match. In a weekend match at UMaine-Presque Isle, Middleton charted 11 digs with seven aces in a three set triumph over the Owls. She averaged 3.00 digs/set over the course of the week.
Rookie of the Week
Ila Smith, Maine Maritime
First Year | Lexington, Kentucky
Middle hitter Ila Smith logged 16 kills on 24 swings against only one error for Maine Maritime women’s volleyball in a pair of NAC East Division wins. She finished with seven kills and four total blocks in a mid-week three-set triumph over Husson University. Over the weekend, Smith charted nine kills with two total blocks and a pair of digs as Maine Maritime closed out UMaine-Presque in straight sets. For the week, Smith posted a .625 hitting percentage and averaged 2.67 kills/set.
