Maine Maritime claims sixth straight NAC volleyball crown

DELHI, New York – The Maine Maritime women’s volleyball team won the North Atlantic Conference Championship match over SUNY Delhi, 3-2, in a very hard-fought match.  The Mariners responded with two strong sets to take the title after Delhi had taken a 2-1 lead.

MMA got off to a great start in the first set opening up a 20-11 lead before Delhi put in a small rally, but was never able to threaten and the Mariners took the set 25-17.  However, the Broncos found their rhythm in the second and third sets behind strong service runs from Stephanie Burke, Kaitlyn Babcock and Jaiden Venute to win set two 25-20 and set three 25-23.

In the fourth set, the Mariners for of to a fast start and never looked back.  Katie Albritton and Grace Jennings went on lengthy Service runs and Rachel Melampy continued to play exceptional volleyball at the net to give them the set 25-15.
The fifth set had much of the same feeling as Katie Albritton responded to an early Delhi lead with another service run giving the Mariners the lead for good.  They finished the match and the set with a 15-8 victory.

MMA was led by tournament MVP Rachel Melampy who recorded 17 kills and 26 digs in the match.  Also bolstering the Mariners was a terrific performance from all-tournament selection Ila Smith who added 12 kills on an incredible .647 swing percentage. Katie Albritton had a match high 46 assists for the Mariners.

Leading the charge for the Broncos were Sage Renneisein and Chloe Elsenbeck with 10 and nine kills respectively and Rebecca Heuler and Stephanie Burke with 14 and 13 digs respectively.

The MMA women will now await their NCAA tournament destination and opponent to be announced in an online selection show on Monday, November 7, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. on www.NCAA.com.
