Canton, NY - SUNY Canton and Maine Maritime will play for the 2022 NAC women's lacrosse championship tomorrow, Sunday, May 1.
The #1 seed and tournament host, SUNY Canton Roos cruised to victory in the first NAC women's lacrosse semifinal (21-4) of the day. The Roos will defend their 2019 title while Maine Maritime continues their first-ever run for the conference championship. The Mariners advanced today with a 15-14 victory in the second semifinal.
Due to academic obligations for the Maine Maritime squad, SUNY Canton will earn the conference AQ for the national championship win or lose on Sunday.

Samantha Dayter set the NCAA DIII-era program record for goals in a season and SUNY Canton (11-6) dominated from start to finish as they earned a 21-4 win versus Thomas College (6-9).
The Roos jumped out to a 3-0 lead just over four minutes in behind goals from Stephanie Thayer, Maddy Caron and EllaRose LeMay. Thomas got on the board midway through the opening quarter off the stick of Anna Chadwick. Canton scored the final two goals of the quarter from LeMay and Karlie McCarthy to take a 5-1 lead after one quarter.
The Terriers cut the lead to three when Lauren Bartlett converted early in the second quarter. From there the Roos took over scoring five of the final six goals of the half to take a 10-3 lead into intermission. Dayter's goal with 8:26 left in the second quarter was her 65th of the season breaking the previous mark of Robyn Carroll '16.
The hosts ran off 10 straight goals in the second half to open a 20-3 lead on their way to a convincing 21-4 victory.
Dayter led all players with seven points and five assists to go with two goals, two ground balls and four draw controls. Thayer tallied six points on four goals and two assists and Caron posted game-highs of five goals, seven draw controls and three caused turnovers.
LeMay scored twice and added an assist and Lindsey Wunder dished out a pair of assists, scored once and picked up five draws. McCarthy scored twice and Casey Pelton, Morgan Montgomery and Michaela Conti all had a goal and assist each. Emily Vogt and Erin Grandaw also scored for the Roos. Madison Leary was tremendous in goal making nine saves and allowing just four goals (.692 save %). Olivia Scott played the final seven minutes stopping all three shots she faced for the Roos.
Mary LaRochelle led the Terriers with a goal and two assists. Chadwick, Bartlett and Amanda Blondin scored once each with Chadwick picking up a game-high five ground balls and adding four draw controls. Lizzy Gotay made 11 saves in the loss for Thomas.
The Roos held the edge in shots on goal (32-16) and draw controls (17-11).
#2 Cazenovia 14 - #3 Maine Maritime 15
Canton, NY - Maine Maritime women's lacrosse heads into the championship game against host SUNY Canton with a thrilling one-goal semifinal win against Cazenovia College.
Just one week ago, the Wildcats defeated the Mariners in a one-goal, double-overtime win to secure the #2 seed and set up the rematch with the #3 Mariners.
Maine Maritime's Olivia Harriman and Hazel Stoddard opened the scoring with unassisted goals in the first two minutes. Callie Andolina got one back for Cazenovia, but Olivia Alejandro answered in under a minute for the Mariners. Andolina would score again in the opening stanza, tallying both first-period Wildcat goals.
Lily Cook was the fourth Mariner to score, while Stoddard recorded a hat trick to help the Mariners end the opener up 6-2.
Cazenovia came out of the short break with hot sticks and scored the next four goals, knotting the score at six-all. Stoddard recorded an assist when Olivia Fay made it a one-goal game again. Stoddard and Harriman would score again before Andolina recorded her third goal and the teams went into halftime with Maine Maritime leading by two (9-7).
Cazenovia's defense held the Mariners scoreless in the third quarter while Angela Nuzzo, Harley Eldridge, and Sydney Allan each scored to give the Wildcats their first lead of the game, 10-9, as the third period closed.
Andolina and Alexa Andrews scored to stretch the lead to three to open the fourth, but the Mariners didn't trail for long. Stoddard scored three of the next four goals to tie the game and then put her team back on top by one.
Andolina traded goals with Kirra Magaa and the game was tied again with 4:10 to play.
Stoddard logged her eighth goal of the game with 2:35 remaining. It would prove to be the game-winner as the final minutes ticked down with both teams seeing several close calls - but no more scoring - down the stretch.
Stoddard led all players with eight goals and 12 draw controls, and notched six ground balls and an assist. Charlotte Rose made eight clutch saves in the win.
Andolina led the Wildcats with six goals. Sydney Allan scored four and dished out two assists. She also won seven draw controls. Amanda Drazek made 12 stops in the loss.
The squads were well-matched in nearly every way. Cazenovia held the advantage in turnovers (12-14) and free-possession shot percentage. Maine Maritime led in draw controls (19-14), shots (36-29), ground balls (19-14), and clears (16-17, 16-18).
