Delhi Men, Husson Women Win Outdoor Track & Field Championships
Delhi, NY – SUNY Delhi hosted the 2022 NAC men's and women's outdoor track and field championship over the weekend. This was the first conference track & field event since 2019.
The Broncos defended their 2019 men's team title with a final score of 220.5. Husson University finished second with 164.5 points, and Thomas College finished third with 147 points.
Ten NAC championship meet records were set in the men's competition, including five belonging to SUNY Delhi athletes. Naquille Harris lowered marks in the 100 and 200-meter sprints, as did Josh Jeffes in the 400-meters. The Delhi quartet of Lorenzo Castro, Jarry Birchmore, Mickenson Simon, and Jeffes lowered the 4 x100-meter relay record to 3:27.82. Chris Flatov raised the bar for the pole vault to 4.31 meters.
The Husson 4 x 400-meter relay team of Evan Chadbourne, Jeff Ward, Hunter Clarke, and Race Bouchard tied the meet record with a time of 43.44.
Thomas Terrier Jarrod Hooper lowered NAC meet record times in the 800 and 1500 meters with times of 1:58.21 and 4:04.87, respectively. In the field, Jake Warn increased the triple jump record to 13.55 meters.
Tyler Brado of SUNY Cobleskill ran 57.39 in the 400-meter hurdles, lowering the record by nearly two seconds.
Husson women flipped the script, winning the team title with 274 points to runner-up Delhi's 190 points. The Terriers finished third with 130 points.
Eight NAC championship meet records were set by women at the 2022 championship.
A trio of Delhi sprinters Jaylynn Sheppard, Kadie-Ann Whyte, and Sabrina Richards lowered marks in the 100, 200, and 400-meter distances. Katerina Salcedo joined them to break the NAC championship record in the 4 x 100-meter relay with a time of 48.91. Delhi's 4 x 400-meter relay squad of Richards, Sheppard, Kelsey Innes, and Salcedo lowered the conference record to 4:15.37.
Husson's Willow Whitten set two record times – in the 100 and 400-meter hurdles.
Molly Walker of Thomas College heaved the discus to a new record mark of 37.91.
