Husson wins 2023 NAC Men's Golf Championship, Charron, Tyler tie for Medalist

CANTON, New York -- Husson University won its third consecutive NAC Men’s Golf Championship Sunday at the Partridge Run Golf & Country Club.
The Eagles had a two-day total of 609 (299, 310, +33) on the par 72, 6569-yard course. All five Husson players finished in the top five, including Cade Charron, who tied Noah Tyler of SUNY Delhi with the top medalist honors at 149, +5. Charron was 72 and 77 for the tournament while Tyler was 70 and 79. Chris Kauppila of Husson was tied with Delhi’s Tom Christoffersen for third at eight over 152, while Kauppila followed Saturday’s 75 with a 77 and Christoffersen had rounds of 75 and 77 as well. Husson teammates Jackson King and Max Woodman tied for fifth at 11 over 155, and Will Kavanaugh rounded out the Eagles’ contingent with a two-day total of 156, 12 over. John Souva of Delhi tied Kavanaugh at 156.
SUNY Delhi took second at 619 with scores of 297 and 322. Along with Tyler and Souva, Delhi had Ben Swartz tie for 14
th at 164, 20 over. Third place went to SUNY Canton at 660 (329 and 331). Adam Szlamczynski was the Roos’ top finisher at 11
th with a 160, 16 over, with teammates Anthony Marion in 12
th (162) and John McCall in 13
th (163).
Rounding out the top five were Thomas at 671 (339, 332) and SUNY Cobleskill at 676 (331, 345). Maine Farmington was sixth at 682 followed by Maine Maritime in seventh at 687, SUNY Poly and VTSU Johnson at 721, Maine Presque Isle 10
th at 748 and Eastern Nazarene in 11
th at 832.
Individually, Dylan Cunningham of Thomas took ninth at 13 over 157, followed by Josh House of Cobleskill in 10
th at 159, 15 over park. Individual leaders for other teams included Neil LaRochelle III of Maine Farmington (164, +20), Isaac Falk of SUNY Poly (167, +23), Thomas Parker of Maine Maritime (170, +26), Jack Senecal of VTSU Johnson (171, +27), Payton Jones of Maine Presque Isle (178, +34) and Jacob Zarges of Eastern Nazarene (196, +52).
Tyler was the top performer among rookies and thus the SUNY Delhi freshman received NAC Rookie of the Year honors.
Along with Charron and Tyler, the NAC All Conference First Team included Kauppila, Christoffersen, King and Woodman. The Second Team featured Kavanaugh, Souva, Cunningham, House and Szlamczynski.
Highlights from Sunday included four birdies from Kauppila, (#2, #4, #8 and #16) and an eagle chip in from the back from Cobleskill's Leo Rosenstadt on #16. Woodman had three birdies in his second round (#7, #12 and #16). Marion had back-to-back birdies on #16 and #17 and Sean McMahan of Cobleskill made a 37 foot putt on #14.
Husson will represent the North Atlantic Conference at the 2024 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada. The dates of the championship are May 14-17.
