AUSTIN, Texas — Maine Maritime Academy junior defender Ronnie Morgan (Goffstown, N.H.) has been named to the First Team of the 2024 Academic All-America® Men's Soccer NCAA Division III Team. This honor, bestowed by a special sub-committee of the College Sports Communicators (CSC), recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined excellence on the field and in the classroom.

Morgan is the first Mariners men's soccer player to receive this distinction since 2011, when Benjamin Russell earned Third Team honors. Moreover, he is the first student-athlete in Maine Maritime Athletics history to be named to the First Team. He is the sole representative from Maine across all divisions and one of only seven honorees from New England-based institutions.

"I am very honored and humbled to have received this level of recognition among the incredible scholar-athletes across all of Division III men's soccer," Morgan said. "I am truly thankful for the support from my family, friends, teammates, coaches, and the dedicated MMA faculty and staff who made this achievement possible. I am beyond grateful for this recognition and hope it can inspire future Mariners. Go Mariners!"

During the CSC Academic All-District® phase, Maine Maritime Men’s Soccer led the New England region and ranked second in the NCAA with five honorees. Only Washington and Lee University (six honorees, Division III) and Mercy University (six honorees, Division II) had more student-athletes under consideration for CSC Academic All-America® awards.

Morgan was named the 2024 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Defensive Player of the Year and earned All-NAC First Team honors. He anchored a defense that ranked in the top half of the NAC in scoring defense (1.89 goals per game) and conceded six fewer goals than in 2023. Additionally, Morgan had a breakout offensive season with four goals and three assists for 11 points, building on his 2022 All-NAC Third Team recognition. He was also named NAC Defensive Player of the Week on September 30, 2024.

Off the field, Morgan is a power engineering technology major with a 3.96 GPA. This rigorous program emphasizes applied engineering skills, preparing graduates for careers in maritime and industrial power systems. He serves as a team captain, soccer camp counselor, multiple-time Dean's List recipient, and active member of the MMA community.

Maine Maritime head coach Billy Shannon praised Morgan’s accomplishments: “Mariners Soccer is incredibly proud of Ronnie for being selected as a College Sports Communicators First Team Academic All-American. Not only is Ronnie one of our team’s leaders on the field, but he demonstrates a commitment to excellence in all his endeavors as a Mariner with his outstanding academic achievements.

“For him to be recognized as one of the nation’s top NCAA Division III men's soccer scholar-athletes is a testament to his hard work and dedication to his education. We could not be prouder to call him one of our own! Congratulations, Ronnie—well deserved!”

The CSC Academic All-America® program recognizes men’s soccer honorees in four divisions: NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.
