NAC Weekly Honors Released
WATERVILLE, Maine - The North Atlantic Conference (NAC) weekly awards have been released with six players, hailing from three different institutions, earning accolades.
Women’s Basketball
Player of the Week:
Logan Thayne – Senior – Forward/Center – SUNY Cobleskill
Senior post player Logan Thayne (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) extended her double-double streak to eight games and averaged 15.5 points and 11.0 rebounds while leading the Fighting Tigers to impressive wins over SUNY Oneonta (67-44) and Union College (74-55) last week. She netted 17 points with 10 boards at Oneonta on Tuesday and followed up with 14 points and 12 caroms in a home triumph over Union on Saturday. Thayne also shot 91.6% (11-12) from the charity stripe during the two non-conference victories.
Defensive Player of the Week:
Taylor Meacham – Senior – Guard – SUNY Cobleskill
Senior guard Taylor Meacham (Berne, N.Y.) anchored the SUNY Cobleskill defense in two wins last week, as the Fighting Tigers held SUNY Oneonta and Union College to a combined 28.8% field goal percentage and an average of 49.5 points per game. For the week, Meacham averaged 14.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.0 steals, and 1.0 blocks.
Rookie of the Week:
Jaira Moore – Freshman – Guard – Lesley University
Freshman guard Jaira Moore (Chula Vista, Calif.) scored eight points in a hard-fought 59-52 loss to WIT in Lesley's only game last week. Six of her eight points came on back-to-back three-pointers during Lesley's late fourth-quarter comeback against the Leopards. She also recorded two assists and two steals in the contest.
Men’s Basketball
Player of the Week:
Elijah Morris – Sophomore – Guard – SUNY Cobleskill
Sophomore guard Elijah Morris (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) led the Fighting Tigers to an 85-79 victory over Keuka College with a standout performance on both ends of the court on Tuesday. In the six-point triumph, Morris scored a team-high 20 points while adding eight rebounds, three steals, and two assists.
Defensive Player of the Week:
Gil Matondo – Junior – Forward – Husson University
Junior forward Gil Matondo (Atlanta, Ga.) averaged 14.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals, 2.5 blocks, and 1.5 assists in two losses last week. He scored a career-high 23 points against Bowdoin on Sunday and recorded six rebounds, four steals, and three blocks against Clark University on Tuesday.
Rookie of the Week:
Tavon Rhodes – Freshman – Guard – Lesley University
Freshman guard Tavon Rhodes (Dorchester, Mass.) played a key role in Lesley's 79-66 victory at New England College on Tuesday, scoring 17 points and grabbing three rebounds while shooting 55.6% (5-9) from the field and 83.3% (5-6) from the free-throw line.
