2024 Metro Women's Swimming & Diving Meet: Day two recap

PISCATAWAY, New Jersey – Maine Maritime Academy women’s swimming and diving team kept their second place standing after Saturday’s competition at the 2024 Metropolitan Collegiate Swimming & Diving Championships (METS). After events this evening, Husson University was able to move up one place and finish third overall going into Sunday. 
 
The Metro Collegiate Championship meet will also serve as the 2024 North Atlantic Conference Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship, which will be scored separately with results announced this week.
 
Husson University’s Rachel Hand and Riley Mahoney were two the top two individual finishes by a NAC competitor for day two. Hand placed second (1:00.13) in the 100 Backstroke while Mahoney had a second-place finish in the 3-meter dive.
 
Gordon’s Katherine Maloney was the top swimmer for the NAC in the 400 Individual Medley coming in fourth with a time of 5:04.13, just seconds behind Roberts Wesleyan swimmer Renee Rozler (5:03.98). Maine Maritime’s Kylie Cantlon came in fifth with a time of 5:24.66. 
 
Rayelle Brewer posted a top NAC time in the 200 Freestyle with a fifth-place finish with a time of 2:01.92. 
 
In the morning session, the Mariners finished in fifth in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1.59.75. The Maine Maritime team consisted of Elizavata Khukov, Sage Dentremont, Claire MacDonald, and Rayelle Brewer. 
 
Maine Maritime was also able to add another fifth-place finish in the final session of the day, the 800 Freestyle Relay. A team of Natasha Kopeck, MacDonald, Eva Schulz, and Cantlon posted a time of 9:04.34. Right behind in sixth place was Gordon with a time of 9:06.07. 
 
After day two of the METS, Maine Maritime is in second place overall with 509.5 points. Felician University remains at the top with 870 points. Husson University is third with 498 with Gordon College (NAC Associate member) moving up to seventh place with 384. SUNY Delhi has not yet earned any points in the meet.

The final day of the championship meet will continue Sunday with preliminaries at 10:00am followed by finals at 5:30pm. Events for Sunday include 1650 Freestyle, women’s 1-meter diving, 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly, and 400 Freestyle Relay. 
There will be a senior walk at approximately 5:20pm.
