2024 Metro Men’s Swimming & Diving Meet: Day two recap
PISCATAWAY, New Jersey – Maine Maritime Academy remains at the top of the team leader board and Husson stays in third after Saturday’s second day of competition at the 2024 Metropolitan Collegiate Swimming & Diving Championships (METS). The NAC had six men’s swimming and diving competitors place in the top three honors across five of the six individual events during Saturday’s session.
The Metro Collegiate Championship meet will also serve as the 2024 North Atlantic Conference Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship, which will be scored separately with results announced this week.
In the morning session relay finals, Maine Maritime posted a second place MET finish in the 200 Medley Relay. The Mariners’ relay team of John Markillie, Aidan Burke, Carson Trout, and John Driscoll posted a time of 1:38.23.
In the evening session, Husson’s Spencer Bernat had the top NAC performance in the 1-meter diving with a score of 448.75.
In the 400 Individual Medley, Maine Maritime had two swimmers finish in the top three honors. Placing second with a time of 4:28.20 was Ponce Saltysiak and Lincoln Graf was right behind with a third-place time of 4:33.47. Mariners’ Carson Trout was also the top NAC individual in the 100 Butterfly finishing second with a time of 52.15.
Husson University saw two swimmers place third in events on Saturday. During the 200 Freestyle, Alex Walsh swam a 1:47.91 to place third and Ryan Emerson had a third-place time of 54.20 in the 100 Backstroke.
In the final event of the night, the Maine Maritime team of Aidan Walls, Saltysiak, Ryan Maher, and James Creegan placed second in the 800 Freestyle Relay with a time of 7:32.61.
Maine Maritime currently leads the field with 911 points in the METS Championship, followed by Baruch College with 851 points. Husson University is third with 683 points. NAC associate member Gordon College is sixth with 292 points, while SUNY Delhi earned their first points of the championship after Dylan Kilgore placed in the 100 Backstroke.
The final day of the championship meet will continue Sunday with preliminaries at 10:00am followed by finals at 5:30pm. Events for Sunday include 1650 Freestyle, men’s 3-meter diving, 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly, and 400 Freestyle Relay.
There will be a senior walk at approximately 5:20pm.
