NAC announces 2024 Men's Lacrosse All-Conference teams and awards

WATERVILLE, Maine – SUNY Canton’s Austin Mesler was tabbed for Player of the Year honors while SUNY Poly’s Joseph VanZandt earned the Defensive Player of the Year award when the North Atlantic Conference 2024 Men’s Lacrosse major award honorees were unveiled.
 
Kyan Dohn of SUNY Morrisville was named Rookie of the Year. SUNY Cobleskill’s Kevon Barrett earned Senior Scholar Athlete honors.
 
SUNY Poly’s Brandon Misiaszek was voted the conference’s Coach of the Year by his NAC coaching peers.
 
Mesler saw success in his junior season at attack after earning Second Team All-Conference honors in the 2023 season. Mesler started in 13 games for the Roos, scoring 43 goals and logging 35 assists and 78 points on the season. Mesler ranked second in the North Atlantic Conference in the 2024 season in goals per game (3.31) and points per game (6.00). Mesler was also third in the NAC in assists per game (2.69). Mesler was named NAC Player of the Week once throughout the season after a week where he tallied 20 points on 12 goals and eight assists to go with 10 ground balls and two caused turnovers (April 8).
 
VanZandt excelled in his final year with SUNY Poly. VanZandt has started 11 games and produced a 5-5 record. He stopped 110 of 213 shots that came his way in the goal. He has also picked up 7 ground balls. VanZandt was named North Atlantic Conference Player of the Week once during the 2024 season after he logged a total of 36 saves (.581 SV%) and a 9.45 goals against average on the week (April 8).
 
Dohn started 13 of 15 games for the Mustangs at attack and powered his way through to a 37-point freshman season behind 23 goals and 14 assists. One of his tallies was a game winner, while two were scored on extra man opportunities. Along with his offensive totals, he added 15 ground balls. A NAC Rookie of the Week honoree, Dohn posted a single game high five goals and three assists against Husson, where he totaled eight points.
 
Barrett exemplifies all of the NAC’s core values, on and off the field. A captain, Barrett’s excellence in the classroom as a communication in technology major includes being a four-time dean’s list recipient and two-time honorable mention honoree. He earned the Excellence in Student Leadership Award in 2022 and 2024, alongside the Distinguished Student Leadership award this past year. Barrett has been a NAC All-Academic Team honoree and is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society. Barrett has acted as a sports social media content intern in the SUNY Cobleskill’s Athletic Department and is a SAAC officer. Over the course of his career, he has started in 23 games and logged 15 ground balls and had 17 caused turnovers.
 
Misiaszek completed his eighth season at the helm of the Wildcats men’s lacrosse program. Misiaszek led his team to their second NAC championship in 2024 after previously winning the crown in 2021.
 
In addition to the top conference awards, 30 student-athletes were named to the All-Conference teams, and nine were named to the NAC Men’s Lacrosse Sportsmanship Team. The Sportsmanship Team is reserved for those who distinguish themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior. The honorees have positively affected the sport’s culture and game environment by clearly demonstrating sportsmanship and integrity beyond playing rules and etiquette.
