NAC announces 2024 Women’s Lacrosse All-Conference teams and awards
WATERVILLE, Maine – The North Atlantic Conference 2024 post-season Women’s Lacrosse awards were headlined by Co-Players of the Year,
Samantha Dayter (SUNY Canton) and
Hazel Stoddard (Maine Maritime Academy), and Defensive Player of the Year,
Devyn Veits (Husson University).
SUNY Morrisville’s
Anyssia Ingersoll was tabbed for Rookie of the Year honors.
Aubrey Mitchell of Maine Maritime Academy was named Senior Scholar Athlete.
SUNY Canton’s
Adam Todd received the votes of his coaching peers to earn the Coach of the Year award.
Dayter’s award is her fourth consecutive conference Player of the Year honor. She had 42 goals and 36 assists for 78 points during the 2024 season, despite missing the first five games due to an injury. Dayter also had 53 draw controls, 16 caused turnovers and 15 ground balls. She ranks first in the NAC in points per game (7.77), first in assists per game (3.77), and third in goals per game (4.0). She was the North Atlantic Conference Player of the Week three times throughout the season and was the conference’s first IWLCA National Player of the Week earlier in the season.
Stoddard shares the Player of the Year title with Dayter after a successful season on the field. Stoddard logged 63 goals, 37 assists, 50 ground balls, and 31 caused turnovers during the 2024 season, starting in all 15 games for the Mariners. She ranks second in the NAC in goals per game (4.20), second in points per game (6.67), and second in assists per game (2.47). Stoddard was also named the North Atlantic Conference Player of the Week twice throughout the season.
Veits had another impact season for the Eagles, recording 47 ground balls, 27 caused turnovers and 75 draw controls. Additionally, Veits tallied three goals and two assists, while finishing with 27 ground balls, 19 caused turnovers and 53 draw controls in conference. The reigning NAC Defensive Player of the Year recorded two of her three goals in conference and two assists and earned NAC Defensive Player of the Week once. Veits finished sixth in the conference with 3.86 ground balls per game in conference and second with 7.57 draw controls. Additionally, Veits tallied 2.71 caused turnovers per game.
Ingersoll had a stellar freshman season for the Mustangs in the midfield, contributing on both ends of the field while creating havoc in the transition game. The freshman started all 15 games and notched 32 goals to go along with 13 assists on the season for 45 points, while collecting seven free position scores and one game winner. Ingersoll led the team with 79 ground balls and 48 caused turnovers, while snagging 95 draw control wins. Within conference play, the freshman recorded 25 points, picked up 43 ground balls, collected 52 draw controls, and caused 28 turnovers. Ingersoll is a five-time Rookie of the Week honoree across the year for the NAC and leads the conference in ground balls per game (6.40), draw controls per game (8.60), and caused turnovers per game (3.80). Ingersoll also ranks 12th overall in all of Division III in caused turnovers per game, is 47th in draw controls and 12th in ground balls per game.
Mitchell has earned Dean’s List honors in six of her seven completed semesters and is on track to do so again this spring while intending to use her foundation of science to enter a graduate nursing program. Mitchell has been a Resident Assistant and served her academic department as well as a teaching assistant. She has also aided in running open houses at the Bigelow Labs in Bar Harbor, educating the community in the science taking place at the labs. As the lacrosse team captain, Mitchell was the recipient of the lacrosse Leader of the Year award, alongside a finalist for the department’s leadership accolade. Mitchell is also the Mariners Sportsmanship Team representative for women’s lacrosse and has served her team in any role that she was asked, bouncing from midfield to defense and back to midfield this year. She transformed into a scoring threat dumping in 44 goals, assisting on 17 more. She also recorded 46 draw controls, 38 ground balls and 22 caused turnovers. Mitchell has started every game in a Mariners uniform in her career.
Todd is in his ninth year as the Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach at SUNY Canton. Todd led the Roos to their fourth North Atlantic Conference Women’s Lacrosse Championship in the 2024 season, resulting in their fourth NCAA Tournament berth in program history.
In addition to the top conference awards,
26 student-athletes were named to the All-Conference teams, and eight were named to the NAC Women’s Lacrosse Sportsmanship Team. The Sportsmanship Team is reserved for those who distinguish themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior. The honorees have positively affected the sport’s culture and game environment by clearly demonstrating sportsmanship and integrity beyond playing rules and etiquette.
