NAC unveils 2024 men’s tennis post-season awards

WATERVILLE, Maine – Gabriel McPhail and Calvin Cutler of Thomas College headlined the 2024 North Atlantic Conference men’s tennis awards, earning Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors, respectively.
 
Thomas head coach, Rob Disch received the Coach of the Year award.
 
Vermont State Lyndon’s Patrick Osborn was named this year’s Senior Scholar Athlete recipient.
 
McPhail and Cutler were also named to the All-NAC Singles team, along with teammate Sebastian Soto. Vermont State Lyndon’s Jeffrey Blais and David Gratton, alongside SUNY Delhi’s Devin Guerrieri rounded out he All-NAC Singles team.
 
The doubles pairings of McPhail/Liam Gould (Thomas), Soto/Cutler (Thomas), J.T. Maccarrone/Jack Madera (SUNY Delhi), and Blais/Gratton (Vermont State Lyndon) comprised the All-NAC Doubles team.
 
McPhail finished the 2024 season with a 8-0 record at no. 1 singles and a 8-0 ledger at no. 1 doubles with teammate Liam Gould. McPhail was named North Atlantic Conference Player of the Week twice throughout the season and was a leader on the court as his team earned the NAC championship title.
 
Cutler was named NAC Rookie of the Week four times throughout the 2024 season and Player of the Week once. Cutler had a successful season at no. 3/4 singles, going undefeated. At no. 2 doubles, Cutler had just one loss on the season.
 
Disch led the Terriers to a 12-2 mark on the 2024 season with a perfect 8-0 record against NAC opponents. This honor will mark the fourth time Disch has earned the NAC Men’s Tennis Coach of the Year award.
 
Osborn has obtained a 3.808 GPA in Atmospheric Sciences with a concentration in Broadcasting, earning Dean’s List every semester throughout his time at Vermont State Lyndon. Also a member of the soccer program, Osborn has been part of the tennis team at Vermont State Lyndon for two years. Off the court, Osborn is a member of the Lyndon AMS/NWA student chapter, serving on the executive board as vice president in his senior year. Osborn executed the Northeastern Storm Conference and serves as a freelance meteorologist for ABC/FOX in Burlington.
 
In addition to the top conference awards, nine student-athletes were named to the All-Conference Singles and Doubles teams, and five were named to the NAC Men's Tennis Sportsmanship Team. The Sportsmanship Team is reserved for those who distinguish themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior. The honorees have positively affected the sport’s culture and game environment by clearly demonstrating sportsmanship and integrity beyond playing rules and etiquette.
