NAC Teams & Individual Athletes Ranked Among NCAA Statistical Leaders
STANDISH, Maine - The final 2023-24 NCAA DIII Statistics rankings are now available and 14 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) teams and 47 individual athletes combined to register 173 top-10 efforts in a variety of statistical categories covering 10 different sports last year.
NAC teams wrapped up the academic year as the NCAA DIII Statistical Champion in 11 categories while individual athlete rankings saw six NAC standouts combine for nine NCAA DIII Statistical titles during the 2023-24 campaign.
Overall, 14 NAC institutions posted 89 top-10 finishes in 53 categories over 10 sports while individual athletes from the conference tallied 84 top-10 efforts in a total of 47 different statistical ratings.
All 14 of the NAC member institutions and one associate member were featured among the 2023-24 NCAA DIII Statistics final leaders.
Five conference programs combined to claim 11 NCAA DIII Statistical Championships:
- The SUNY Cobleskill women’s basketball team capping the 2023-24 campaign ranked first in the nation in four team stats: rebounding (52.11 RPG), rebound margin (15.10 RPG), scoring margin (32.20 PPG), and field goal percentage defense (.264)
- The SUNY Poly softball team led the country in triples (30), triples per game (0.83), and doubles per game (2.31)
- VTSU Lyndon men’s soccer notched the fewest fouls per game (3.07) and most saves per match (12.20)
- Maine Maritime’s men’s lacrosse program notched the nation’s lowest opponents’ clear percentage (66.6%)
- The Thomas field hockey squad ranked atop the penalty corners per game (15.35) category
Six individual conference athletes combined to notch a total of nine NCAA DIII Statistical Championships:
- VTSU Johnson senior women’s volleyball standout Max Ludlow (Arvada, Colo.) led the nation in service aces (100) and aces per set (1.12)
- Maine Maritime junior center Curt Heinz (Stuttgart, Germany) ranked first in both rebounds per game (15.4) and defensive rebounds per game (12.04)
- VTSU Lyndon junior men’s soccer goalkeeper Robert McDonald (Edgewood, Md.) posted 12.07 saves per game with 181 total saves and led the nation in both categories
- SUNY Morrisville fifth-year attack Zach Nestor (Manlius, N.Y.) paced all NCAA DIII men’s lacrosse players with 4.56 assists per game
- SUNY Poly senior softball infielder Kimberly Birmingham (Camden, N.Y.) capped the season ranked atop the NCAA DIII on-base percentage leaderboard with a .652 mark
- Thomas College senior baseball infielder Tony Meza (Los Angeles, Calif.) was the most difficult NCAA DIII player to strike out in 2024 with just two punch outs in 108 at bats for 54.0 AB/K ratio
