PORTLAND, Maine – Top seeded Simmons University capture the 2025 North Atlantic Conference Women’s Tennis Championship after defeating No. 2 Husson University ,5-2, in Sunday’s championship match at the Apex Racket and Fitness Club. With today’s victory, the Sharks earn their first NAC women’s tennis title.
Doubles duo Emma Parsons and Emilie Lapointe got the match started for the Sharks, registering a 6-0 win at No.2 doubles over the Eagles’ Kayla Lockhart and Anah Albert. Husson’s was able to tie doubles play at 1-1 a piece after Katelyn Cotter and Sadie May secured a 6-3 victory at No.3 doubles over Simmons’ Grace Burke and Laura Lowe.
In a hard-fought No.1 doubles matchup, the Simmons’ pair comprising of Masha Shutts and Amoli Vad, gave the Sharks the edge heading into singles play after defeating Husson’s Julia Barber and Joey Lynn Ramsdell.
The Sharks struck first in singles play as Lapointe and Vad gave the Simmons a 3-0 advantage as the two won their No. 3 and 2 singles matches respectively. Trailing by 3, the Eagles’ first-year Katelyn Cotter put Husson up on the scoreboard after winning No.6 singles over Simmons’ Parsons with a 6-4, 6-1 score.
Masha Shutts clinched the match for the Sharks to secure their fourth point as she defeated Barber 6-2, 6-2 in No.1 doubles action.
With games being played to completion by conference rule, No.4 singles continued their play and Husson’s Albert answered with 6-1, 6-4 victory over Burke. In the final matchup of the day, the Shark’s Lowe bested Eagles’ Mallory Beaulieu at No.5 Singles with a score of 6-1, 1-6, 7-5 to complete the match (5-2).
With today’s win over Husson, Simmons earns the NAC women’s tennis automatic qualifier (AQ) to the NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Championship Tournament to be played in the spring of 2026. The tournament field will be announced on May 4, 2026, and play will begin on May 8, 2026 at a site to be determined. Simmons will return to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2015 when they competed in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
Simmons’ Masha Shutts was named 2025 NAC Women’s Tennis Tournament Most Valuable Player (MVP). She is the first of seven student-athletes to be named to the All-Tournament Team. The full list of All-Tournament Team honorees will be announced the week of October 13, 2025.
