CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Delhi Broncos Men's Soccer team's season ended in heartbreak, falling to host Cortland 1-0 in double overtime in the first round of the NCAA Tournement.
Early on the Cortland attack looked mencaing, coming up with multiple through balls that freed their forwards and making Delhi goalie Salvatore Meloni make several key saves to keep the hosts off the scoreboard. As the game progressed the Delhi defense was able to limit these chances while also creating scoring looks of their own, with Cortland defenders making huge blocks throughout the game. For the second straight time the Broncos took a game to double overtime, but this time a stunning goal from Sam LaMendola that left Meloni no chance at a save saw the host squad through.
Meloni had arguably his best game in net all year, tallying seven saves on the first seven shots on goal from the Red Dragons. Cortland goalie Jordan Ott answered both times he was called upon in the win, and Shay Daly and Owen Brant each tallied an assist for the hosts on the game-winner.
The Broncos drew the Red Dragons on the NCAA selection show on Monday, a matchup that will become a mainstay of the Broncos schedule following their move to the SUNYAC for the 2026 season. Coach Esposito and staff will look to continue the momentum built at the end of this year into next year's transition.
