WATERVILLE, Maine – The 2025 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Men’s Basketball Preseason Poll results have been tabulated, and defending champion Husson University has been selected to claim the North Atlantic Conference title this season according to a vote of NAC men’s basketball coaches.

The Eagles secured eight first-place votes and 98 points overall as they head into the 2025-26 campaign looking to defend their 2025-26 conference title. UMaine-Presque Isle claimed the final two first-place votes and earned second-place with 86 points overall, while UMaine-Farmington finished third with 71 points. Rounding out the top five vote getters are Maine Maritime Academy (65 points) and Vermont State University Johnson (58 points), finishing fourth and fifth respectively.

SUNY Delhi notched 49 points for a sixth-place finish followed by Thomas College with seventh with 36 points and Vermont State University Lyndon in eighth with 34 points. Lesley University (31 points) and SUNY Cobleskill (22 points) completed the poll.

Husson looks to repeat as NAC champions after defeating VTSU Johnson 90-59 last winter in the 2024-25 championship. The Eagles have claimed 10 total NAC championships.

2025-26 NAC Players to Watch

  • Marquay Tanksley | Sophomore | Cohoes, N.Y.

    Chrischen Chung | Senior | guard | Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

Sophomore two-way player Marquay Tanksley and senior guard Chrischen Chung will lead the Tigers into the new season. Tanksley earned both Top Newcomer and All-Conference votes last year, averaging 11 points per game and collecting a pair of NAC Rookie of the Week honors. Chung emerged as one of the league’s most efficient shooters during the second semester, knocking down 35 three-pointers in just 17 games at nearly a 40 percent clip.

  • Gustarling Louis | Senior | Guard | Elmont, N.Y.

Gustarling Louis is a strong, athletic forward who leads all returners with 10.8 ppg in the 2024-25 season. Louis is an elite mid-range shooter whose large frame makes it difficult for defenders to contest. Simply put Louis is a big shot maker and wants the ball in his hands when the Broncos need a bucket.

Noah Colin | Senior | Guard | Spring Valley, N.Y.

Noah Colin is a defensive game changer for the Broncos. Colin's elite defensive skills and his ability to guard multiple positions make him a matchup nightmare for opposing coaches, with Colin also having the ability to impact the game offensively, like in his 18-point game against Husson or his 14-point game against Cobleskill in the 2024-25 season.

  • Andrew Phillips | Sophomore | Forward | Atlanta, Ga.

The guard/forward from Atlanta, GA most recently comes from Columbus State University, following a standout career at Whitefield Academy.

Marty Askenazi | Junior | Guard | Denver, Colo.

Askenazi, hailing from Denver, Colorado, was recognized as a 2x First Team All-Conference and 2x All-State Honorable mention honoree while representing the DSST Montview.

  • Andre McCauley | Junior | Guard | Upper Marlboro, Md.

McCauley appeared in just nine games last year for the Eagles before missing the season due to an upper body injury. In his freshman season with Husson, the Maryland native played in 28 games making 26 starts, and averaged 10.5 points per game, 1.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists and posted a career high of 20 points against the University of La Verne on Dec. 28, 2023. McCauley was named to the Maine Men’s Basketball Coaches and Writers Association All-State Rookie Team for his efforts during his first year in the green and gold.

Eric Ahlers | Senior | F | St. Pete, Fla.

Ahlers is looking for a bounce back season for Husson after he was injured in the season-opener last year and did not return for the Eagles. Ahlers appeared in 51 games for the Eagles over his first two seasons and was a valuable scoring threat off the bench, averaging 8.1 points per game during his sophomore campaign. Ahlers showed to be a good rebounder for the Eagles in his lone action for the season, as he grabbed nine rebounds against Lasell University in just 24 minutes before exiting with an injury. Ahlers has recorded 17 double-figure scoring games in his two-plus years with the team and has added two 20-point performances.

  • CJ Leonard | Senior | Guard | Raynham, Mass.

CJ Leonard, a returning senior for the Lynx, is the leading scorer and leading rebounder amongst returners from last season's team. He averaged 9.8p and 5.2r on the season.

    Mpore Semuhoza | Senior | Guard/Forward | Westbrook, Maine

Mpore Semuhoza, a transfer senior for the Lynx, brings a versatile college basketball experience and leadership to this season's team, having averaged 15.7p and 8.4r just a season ago at Great Bay Community College.

  • Gregory Gonyea Jr. | Graduate Student | Guard | Dolgeville, N.Y.

Gregory, a 6’1” guard, returns as a graduate student for his final season.  The NAC’s leading scorer in 2024-25, Gregory was a 1st Team All-Conference selection, a 3rd Team D3hoops.com All-Region selection, and the Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year.  He averaged 20.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game, and has scored 1,101 points through three seasons.

    Matt Doyle | Senior | Forward | Whitesboro, N.Y.

The 6’5” senior forward made a big jump in 2024-25, and looks to make another this season.  Matt averaged 6.4 point and a team best 6.6 rebounds per game a year ago and was the only Hornet to start all 26 games.  He will be counted on to again provide strength on the glass and a presence around the basket.

  • Jack Banks | Junior | Forward | Gulf Breeze, Fla.

Maine Maritime Academy men’s basketball junior Jack Banks returns for the 2025-26 season after finishing second on the team with 14.1 points per game. Banks averaged 5.0 rebounds per game and tallied 24 assists, 21 steals and 14 blocks.

Josiah Dancy | Senior | Guard | Orlando, Fla.

Maine Maritime Academy men’s basketball senior Josiah Dancy returns to the floor for the upcoming season after finishing 2024-25 averaging 7.0 points, 3.6 rebounds and posted 91 assists and 27 steals.

  • Zach McLaughlin | Sophomore | guard | Hampden, Maine

McLaughlin will transition into the starting off-ball guard position for the Beavers this season after providing a meaningful spark off the bench a year ago. Averaging 18.4 minutes per game, McLaughlin finished third on the team in points per game (12.0) while shooting an effective 45.9% from the field.

Gabe Michaud | Sophomore | Guard | Gorham, Maine

Michaud will return as the starting point guard for the 2025-26 season. As a first-year Michaud made 20 starts, averaging 3.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game. After losing four of the team's top-five scorers from last season's roster, Michaud will look to provide an increased scoring load this season for the new-look Beavers.

  • Akhe McMichael | Senior | Guard | St. Petersburg, Fla.

UMPI's most prolific scorer returns for his final season, after taking home First-Team All-Conference and First-Team All-State awards last season. He finished 6th in the conference in scoring, averaging 17.2 points per game, while also finishing sixth in field goal percentage as a guard, shooting exactly 50% on the year. He finished second in the NAC in free throw percentage as well, shooting 81.6% from the charity stripe. McMichael had several breakout performances and clutch moments. His tying shot in UMPI's comeback win over Farmington on January 31st capped off a career-high 36-point night, and his game-winner in the final seconds over MMA on February 15th also was another big moment as he led UMPI to their winningest season in program history.

Doug McCalla | Junior | Forward | West Palm Beach, Fla.

McCalla returns from a season ending injury that he suffered on January 12th of last year. McCalla was enjoying a great sophomore season, starting all 14 games to that point and averaging 11.1 points per game while leading UMPI in rebounds with 7.4 boards per game. A versatile forward standing at 6 foot 5 inches, McCalla has proven to be very effective in the paint, a good post-defender, and can still pose an outside shot threat if left open. McCalla will be a big part of the leadership of UMPI as they bring in a lot of transfer players who are new to the program.

  • Jayden Desimone | Junior | Guard | Providence | R.I.

Desimone, a transfer from the Community College of Rhode Island, enters his first season with the Terriers. The junior guard was named Second Team All NJCAA Region 21 last season.

TJ Blackmon | Sophomore | Guard | Grenada, Miss.

Coming off an injury that cut his first year short, Blackmon looks to provide stability and leadership at the point guard position for the Terriers.
