Terriers & Beavers Picked to Top NAC Men's Track & Field Championship

WATERVILLE, Maine – Six teams will compete in the 2025 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship, hosted by Thomas College at the Alfond Track on the campus of Colby College this Friday and Saturday.

Thomas College and UMaine-Farmington are projected to battle for the top spot, each earning three first-place votes and 33 total points in the coaches’ pre-championship poll. Husson University is ranked third with 24 points, followed by UMaine-Presque Isle (13), Lesley University (12), and VTSU-Johnson (11).

The NAC Championship opens Friday at 3:00 PM with the men’s and women’s pole vault and high jump events. The remaining events begin Saturday at 11:20 AM.

The Terriers bring a deep and talented roster into the 2025 NAC Championship. Sophomore Henry Phillips (Waterville, Maine) returns as the defending NAC Javelin champion (46.85m)while classmate Nick Plamondon (Oxford Hills, Maine) leads the NAC in both the 100m (10.85) and 200m (22.44) so far this season. Junior Miles Gadwah (Charleston, Maine) tops the conference in the Pole Vault (3.20m), sophomore Jafar Ojugbele (Old Town, Maine) leads in the Triple Jump (12.97m), senior Van Franklin (Jacksonville, Fla.) paces the field in the Discus (41.87m), and graduate student Max Bojarski (Brunswick, Maine) headlines the Hammer Throw (48.97m) list. Thomas appears to be hitting its stride, with Plamondon, Bojarski, and freshman Gage Bruns (Bucksport, Maine) sweeping the latest NAC weekly honors.

UMaine-Farmington returns two 2024 individual champions in seniors Ben Vachon (Portland, Maine) and Connor Freeman (Bath, Maine). Vachon, the reigning NAC Field Athlete of the Year, captured the High Jump title (1.82m), while Freeman won the 3000m Steeplechase with a 10:17.20 effort last spring. Seven Beavers have earned NAC weekly honors this season: senior Justin Castaldo (Scarborough, Maine), junior Nate Trussell (Berwick, Maine), sophomores Alex Crews (Winslow, Maine) and Andrew LaFlamme (Nashua, N.H.), and freshmen Owen Booker (Lisbon, Maine), Alexander Gagnon (Goffstown, N.H.), and Samuel Perkins (Jay, Maine).

Senior David Hileman (Bucksport, Maine) ranks among the NAC’s top distance runners this spring, recording the conference’s best 5K time (16:10.00) at the Tufts Snowflake Classic (3/29/25). Freshman Matthew Scamman (Rochester, N.H.) leads the NAC in the 400m Hurdles (1:01.59) and is poised to contribute, while junior Jaden Grazulis (Waterville, Maine) is expected to score in three throwing events: discus, hammer, and javelin.

Junior Xavier McAtee (Presque Isle, Maine), the reigning NAC Discus champion (40.28m), leads a young but competitive UMPI squad into the 2025 NAC Championship. Sophomore Isaac Dore (Howland, Maine) has emerged as a versatile contributor, ranking top-five in the NAC in four events: 400m (53.43, 2nd), 800m (2:09.65, 5th), Triple Jump (11.88m, 5th), and Javelin (49.02m, 3rd).

The Lynx feature one of the top athletes in the conference in Hezekiah Brown (Stafford, Va.), as the sophomore ranks among the NAC leaders so far this season in the Long Jump (7.03m, 1st), 100-Meter (11.31, 2nd), 200-Meter (22.92, 2nd), High Jump (1.70m, 7th), and 400-Meter (55.42, 8th) events.

Junior Eli Wilson (New Castle, Del.), a two-time NAC Field Athlete of the Week this spring, leads all conference high jumpers with a 2.05m performance, which he registered at the SNHU Spring Invitational (3/28/25). Sophomore Sabree Glover (Philadelphia, Pa.) is the conference leader in the 400-Meter with a 51.97 time and his 23.24 effort in the 200-Meter ranks fourth in the NAC. Both of Glover’s aforementioned times were posted at the Ed Daniels Invite (4/14/25).
