NAC Unveils 2025 Softball All-Conference Teams

WATERVILLE, Maine – The 2025 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Softball postseason awards have been released. Major awards include Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Senior Scholar Athlete, and Coaching Staff of the Year. First Team All-Conference selections from both the East and West Divisions were also revealed.

Husson University came away with three 2025 major softball awards as graduate student Julia Gregoire (Lyman, ME) was named North Atlantic Conference Player of the Year, Sky Johnson (Pismo Beach, CA) earned Pitcher of the Year, and the Eagles coaching staff, led by Rick Roberts, was tabbed for Coaching Staff of the Year. SUNY Cobleskill garnered two major awards as Gabriella Wendelken (Stuyvesant, NY) was named Rookie of the Year and Mackenzie Wendelken (Stuyvesant, NY) claimed Senior Scholar Athlete accolades.

Each season, the NAC names a Sportsmanship Team, with one honoree per institution nominated by their head coach. This recognition is awarded to individuals who demonstrate exceptional sportsmanship and positively impact the culture of track & field with integrity beyond the sport’s requirements. The nine NAC Sportsmanship Team honorees are listed below.
 
Player of the Year: Julia Gregoire, Husson University
­Husson graduate student Julia Gregoire finished the regular season leading the conference with an overall .458 average, 44 hits, eight doubles, four triples, two home runs and 25 RBI's. Gregoire posted a .688 slugging percentage with a .519 on-base percentage, nine walks and a 1.207 OPS. In conference play, Gregoire batted .625 with 15 hits, eight runs, three doubles, three triples, two home runs, 15 RBIs, and two walks. Additionally, Gregoire recorded a 1.250 slugging percentage, a .667 on-base percentage, and a 1.917 OPS. She finished first in the conference in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, and on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS).

Over her four-year career at Husson, Gregoire has been selected to the NAC East Division All-Conference First Team twice (2024, 2025) and was recently named to the 2025 NAC All-Tournament Team. Heading into the NCAA Tournament, Gregoire tallies a career .387 batting average, playing in 111 games, with 106 hits, 21 doubles, four triples, six home runs, driving in 63 RBIs and a slugging percentage of .558.  
 

Pitcher of the Year: Sky Johnson, Husson University

Sky Johnson is nearing the end of her lone season at Husson, where the graduate transfer has posted a 12-3 regular season record with a conference-best 1.32 ERA over 104 innings pitched. Johnson recorded 115 strikeouts and limited her opponents to a .217 batting average. In conference play, Johnson led the league with a 0.00 ERA with a 3-0 record with three complete games. In 19 innings of work in the circle, she recorded only eight hits, one walk, and 31 strikeouts, keeping NAC opponents to a .125 batting average.

Johnson was named NAC Pitcher of the Week three times, and her season was highlighted with a season high 13 strikeouts on April 24 versus University of Southern Maine. She went 2-0 in the NAC tournament helping the Eagles secure their fifth consecutive championship and was named as the 2025 NAC Tournament Most Valuable Player. Johnson, currently ranked 25th in NCAA Division III with a 1.32 ERA, becomes Husson’s fifth consecutive NAC Pitcher of the Year honoree.
 
Rookie of the Year: Gabriella Wendelken, SUNY Cobleskill

Gabriella Wendelken has made a significant impact all over the field for the Tigers. Excelling as a utility player, she has contributed in the outfield, played strong defense at first base, dominated in the pitcher’s circle, and shined at the plate. In conference play, Wendelken holds an undefeated 3-0 record with 25.2 innings pitched, 36 strikeouts, and just 16 walks. She ranks second in the conference in strikeouts, is top five in wins, and among the top ten in innings pitched. Across all regular games, she ranks fourth in the conference in total strikeouts with 76 and is among the top ten in total wins with six.

At the plate, Wendelken recorded a conference batting average of .459, a 1.205 on-base percentage, and a .640 slugging percentage with 17 hits, 16 runs, seven doubles, and nine RBIs. Her regular season overall batting average sits at a .427 with an on-base percentage of .527, scoring 27 runs with 13 doubles and 15 walks. Among first-year players, she leads the conference in strikeouts, strikeouts looking, and total wins. She currently ranks third overall in runs and doubles and is tied for fourth in total hits. Wendelken has collected multiple NAC weekly honors, including three Rookie of the Week awards as well as Pitcher and Player of the Week accolades. She also earned a spot on the 2025 NAC All-Tournament Team.
 
Senior Scholar Athlete: Mackenzie Wendelken, SUNY Cobleskill

Off the field, Mackenzie Wendelken maintains an impressive 3.90 GPA while pursuing a dual bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity and Business Administration. She is on track to complete both degrees in just three years. Wendelken has earned Dean’s List honors in five semesters. Her leadership and dedication extend well beyond athletics. She was inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society in spring 2024 and the National Society of Leadership and Success in 2025.

Academically, she is a three-time NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete and a two-time NAC All-Academic Team selection. Wendelken is also deeply involved in her campus and community. She works as a Campus Recreation Supervisor and is completing an internship with the IT department at Ichabod Crane Central School District. Additionally, she contributes to community service projects with her softball team, including volunteering at a local animal shelter and helping organize youth clinics.

On the field, Mackenzie is a three-year starter and two-year team captain whose performance earned her NAC All-Conference Second Team honors in 2023 and, more recently, 2025 First Team West All-Conference and NAC All-Tournament accolades. She currently ranks among the conference’s top five in doubles, on-base percentage, and walks, and is top ten in runs scored and RBIs.
 
Coaching Staff of the Year: Husson University

The Husson coaching staff is led by second-year head coach Rick Roberts, who guided the Eagles to their fifth consecutive NAC championship title and seventh in the past eight seasons. Roberts is joined by assistant coaches Dr. Lee Speronis, Whitney
Jones, and Mikaela Pechar. The Eagles finished the regular season with a 25-10 overall record and went 8-0 in conference play. Husson secured the No. 1 seed in the NAC tournament and extended their overall record 27-10 after going 3-0 in the postseason.
