Player of the Week
Matt Holmes | Husson University | Junior | OF | Bangor, Maine
Holmes continued to light it up at the plate for Husson in his three games this past week, as the junior slugger tallied eight hits in 14 total at-bats. Of those eight hits, Holmes posted three doubles and two home runs, while driving in 10 runs, to extend his NAC-leading total to 38 RBIs. The lefty-swinger also recorded six runs scored and one intentional walk in his dominant week of hitting.
Pitcher of the Week
Austin Bigelow | VTSU Lyndon | Sophomore | P | East Hampton, Conn.
Bigelow played a big role in all three Hornet wins as the Hornets went 3-1 on the week. On Wednesday he earned saves in both ends of Lyndon's doubleheader sweep at Lesley. In game one, after catching 10.1 innings, he came out from behind the plate with one out in the bottom of the 11th inning. With the tying run at the plate, he was able to induce a game ending double play. Then in game two he pitched 2.1 innings of one-hit shutout baseball to keep the Lynx at bay. On Saturday, he was the winning pitcher after coming on and allowing only one run and one hit over the final two innings of Lyndon’s come from behind win over Husson. For the week he allowed one run and three hits with six strikeouts and no walks over five innings, with a win and two saves.
Rookie of the Week
Nick Griffel | Thomas College | First-Year | SS | West Valley City, Utah
Nick Griffel had an excellent week for the Terriers, starting all four conference games played this week where the Terriers went 3-1. In total he had eight hits, eight RBI, one home run, and hit .500 for the week. Griffel earned at least one hit in every single game this week, didn't strike out once, and had several clutch RBIs to help the team earn three conference wins. His best performance came in game one against Lesley on Sunday, earning three hits and five RBIs.
