Game 3: #1 Husson d. #4 UMaine-Farmington 4-1
The top seeded Eagles extend their win streak to 13 after a 4-1 victory over #4 UMaine-Farmington to advance to the winner’s bracket in day two of the double-elimination tournament.
Husson’s Lydia Rice recorded her eighth home run of the season – seventh in the last 10 games – with a two-run shot to put the Eagles on the board in the first inning. Morgan Tainter scored on the play after reaching base with a single in the previous at bat.
The Eagles extended their lead to 3-0 in the second inning as Tayler Watterson and Allie Casavant both reached on walks before advancing on a single by Sophia Lynch. Camryn King then delivered a sacrifice fly to score Watterson.
After four scoreless innings, Farmington got on the board in the top of the fifth to cut their deficit to two runs. Jessica Dow drew a walk to begin the inning and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Lisa Truchin. Later in the at bat, a dropped third strike allowed Simpson to attempt to reach first base, and a throwing error by Husson enabled Dow to score an unearned run, trimming the Eagles’ lead to 3-1.
Farmington was unable to chip away at the
margin over the final two innings as the Husson defense held the Beavers to just one hit to close out the 4-1 victory. Husson’s Ana Lang improved to 21-3 in the circle after pitching 5.1 innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out eight batters.
