Game 5: #3 SUNY Cobleskill d. #4 UMaine-Farmington 8-3
BANGOR, Maine – No. 3 Cobleskill used a six-run fourth inning to keep its postseason run alive, defeating No. 4 UMaine-Farmington in game five – the opening contest of day two – of the 2026 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Softball Tournament.
With the win, the Tigers advance to game eight later today, where they will face the winner of game six between No. 5 SUNY Delhi and No. 6 UMaine-Presque Isle.
The Beavers jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning. Melissa Mayo drew a leadoff walk on a full count before moving to third on an Emily Collins double to center field. Junior Jessica Dow then lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home Mayo for the game’s first run. Later in the inning, Maddie Pike delivered an RBI single to right field, scoring Collins and giving UMaine-Farmington a 2-0 advantage.
Natalie Simpson got the start in the circle for the Beavers and was dominant early, holding Cobleskill hitless through the first two innings. Farmington added to its lead in the top of the third after Pike reached on a throwing error and advanced to second on a pinch hit by Lisa Truchin. Bella Miller followed with a single to move Pike to third before Angelina Ventullo drove in another run with a sacrifice fly to left field, extending the Beaver lead to 3-0.
Cobleskill began to chip away at the deficit in the bottom of the third inning. Baylee Yandow started the rally with a one-out single up the middle before advancing to third on a throwing error during Sammy Fausti’s at bat, as Fausti reached second on the play. Kylie Rattigan then drove in Yandow with an RBI, putting the Tigers on the board with an unearned run.
Aliyah Neeser sparked Cobleskill’s fourth-inning rally with a double down the left field line before Sam Lawton drew a full-count walk, putting runners on second and third with two outs. Back-to-back singles from Mackenzie Carver and Baylee Yandow brought home Neeser and Lawton to tie the game at 3-3. Kylie Rattigan then delivered the biggest hit of the game, launching a grand slam to give the Tigers a 7-3 advantage.
Cobleskill added an insurance run in the fifth inning after Hart led off with a single up the middle and Madelynn Orosz entered as a pinch runner. Neeser collected another hit to move Orosz into scoring position before Lawton followed with an RBI single to score Orosz and extend the Tigers’ lead to 8-3.
UMaine-Farmington attempted to rally over the final two innings, but the Cobleskill defense and pitcher Gabriella Wendelken held the Beavers to just two hits and no runs down the stretch to secure the 8-3 victory. Farmington closes out the 2026 season with a 15-19 overall record.
