    Westfield, Mass. – No 4 Castleton kept it close for a while but top-seeded Westfield St. was able to pull away in the end and finish with an 88-72 victory over the Spartans in the ECAC New England Division III men's basketball semifinals at the Woodward Center on Saturday afternoon.
  • Mustapha Tip-In Propels Castleton in ECAC Tournament

    CASTLETON, Vt. – Senior Dammy Mustapha elevated over the defense to tip in a layup with just 4.8 seconds remaining to give Castleton an 80-79 lead, which proved to be the difference as a last-second shot by Wentworth went long and Castleton held on for the one-point victory in Glenbrook Gym on Wednesday night.

    University of Maine at Farmington junior Ben Johnson was the overwhelming choice of the league’s coaches for the 2012-13 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Year award. Johnson was a dominant force in the middle throughout the year, leading the conference in scoring (21.8 ppg) and rebounding (11.2 rpg) in 18 conference games. Johnson earned Player of the Week honors four times during the season and led the Beavers to the top seed in the conference tournament while shooting better than 60 percent from the field and blocking 20 shots.

    Jason Gray averaged 23 points and 8.3 rebounds in a 2-1 week for Lyndon State, closing out the regular season with the fifth seed in the upcoming tournament and earning Player of the Week honors. Asim Khan averaged 18 points per game for Johnson State this week and was named Rookie of the Week.

Wol Majong led Colby-Sawyer, averaging 20.7 points while shooting better than 64 percent from long range and was named Rookie of the Week.

    Castleton went 2-0 this week, including a win over conference-leading Husson, thanks in large part to the efforts of Logan White and Chad Copeland who earned Player and Rookie of the Week honors respectively. White averaged 24.5 points, and poured in 25 of his game-high 30 against Husson in the second half. Copeland averaged 14 points and six rebounds, with 12 of his 16 against Husson coming in the final 20 minutes of the come-from-behind win.

Levi Barnes helped Thomas to a 2-0 start, averaging 11 points per game, including a 16-poit outburst in his first collegiate start and was named Rookie of the Week.
  • Husson Tops Men's Basketball Preseason Poll

    Husson University has been chosen the preseason favorite to win the North Atlantic Conference men's basketball title in a vote conducted by the league's coaches. The Eagles received four first place votes and 90 total points to top the poll in which just six points separated the top three teams.
