PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Matt MacKenzie, Husson University
(Junior, Forward - Warren, Maine)
MacKenzie averaged 22 points and 9.5 rebounds while shooting 54% from the floor leading Husson to their first NAC title and a berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament. The junior forward scored 25 points in the title game including 8 during a 15-3 run late in the second half of the 73-60 victory over Thomas.

MacKenzie averaged 27 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2 steals as the Eagles went 1-1 this week. MacKenzie had a career high 30 points in a 89-74 win over Castleton. He shot 65% from the field in the two games.

 

 

 

Andrew Duncanson, Thomas College
(So, guard - Portland, ME)
In two victories in Vermont this past weekend, Duncanson averaged 25.5 points, 6.5 assists, and 4 rebounds. In the second half against Johnson St., the Sophomore led a Terrier surge that resulted in a 25 point lead with six minutes remaining by scoring 17 points on 5-7 shooting from the floor and 7-10 from the line. Against Lyndon St., Duncanson played arguably his best game of the year by scoring 29 points and dishing out 8 assists. He went an impressive 11-12 from the free throw line for the game.

 

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Ben Sackett, Lyndon State
(Freshman, Guard - Lyndonville, Vt.)
Sackett averaged 14.3 points in a 2-1 week for the Hornets. Sackett scored 17 points, including five- three-pointers, in an 86-76 win over the College of St. Joseph on Tuesday and had 18 points and two treys in the Hornets' 87-71 upset victory over Maine-Farmington on Friday. The rookie guard ended the week with a eigh-point (two threes) effort on Saturday as Lyndon dropped an 89-81 decision to Thomas College.

MacKenzie paced the Eagles averaging 21.3 points and 7.3 rebounds while shooting 58.5% (24-41) from the field and 81.8% (18-22) from the foul line as Husson went 3-0 in NAC contests. The junior posted a career high 28 points in a 95-74 win over Lyndon State and a double double of 15 point and 10 rebounds in a 71-49 win over Maine Maritime Academy.

Shawn Rodgers, Thomas College
(First Year, Forward - Philadelphia, PA)
In a 2-1 week for the Terriers, first year Shawn Rodgers continued his impressive play by averaging 13.3 points and 12 rebounds per game while shooting 60% from the floor (15-25). In a 99-82 victory over Castleton, Rodgers scored 18 points and pulled down 18 rebounds.

Fabian Ferreira, Green Mountain College
(SR, G - Queens, NY)
Fabian Ferreira averaged 25.7ppg, 3.3 rpg, 3.3spg, and 1.3 apg in helping Green Mountain to a 2-1 week overall, and a 2-0 week in conference action. On the week, Ferreira shot 53.1%(26-49) from the floor, 54.5%(12-22) from 3pt territory, and 68%(13-19) from the free throw stripe. In GMC's 84-80 win over Johnson St, Ferreira scored 19 pts, picked up 2 steals and added one rebound and assist. He led the way for the Eagles in their 92-90 overtime thriller vs Lyndon St, pouring in 36 points on 13-25 from the field and 7-11 from 3pt land and 3-3 from the charity stripe, while also collecting 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. In GMC's lone defeat of the week at Western Connecticut State 87-80, Ferreira scored 22 points, on 6-9 from the field, 3-5 from 3pt land, and 7-9 from the free throw line, while also adding 5 steals and 4 rebounds.

(Freshman, Guard - Lyndonville, Vt.)
Sackett averaged 13.3 points on the week as Lyndon State ended a seven-game losing streak. On Tuesday, Sackett scored 21 points, including a 7-for-14 effort from beyond the three-point arc, in a 92-90 overtime loss to Green Mountain College; and two days later he tossed in 13 points, including a pair of treys, in a 63-60 non-conference setback at Plymouth State. Sackett had six points in the Hornets' 68-66 victory over Castleton State Saturday.

 

 

 

 

Shawn Rodgers, Thomas
(Fr., F - Philadelphia, PA)
In games against MMA and Husson this week, the 6'7 first year averaged 13 points and 14 rebounds. The Philadelphia native set a career high when he gathered in 19 caroms against Maine Maritime. Against Husson, whom Rodgers did not play against the first time out, he posted a 19 point 9 rebound game, including an 8-11 showing from the field.

Rodgers had a great weekend in Vermont as he lead the Terriers to a sweep of Castleton  and Green Mountain. The 6'7 freshman from Philadelphia had career highs in points and rebounds against Castleton going for 21 points and 17 boards in only 18 minutes of playing time. He followed that up with 16 points and 11 rebounds against GMC the next afternoon. On the weekend, the first year shot 71% (15-21) from the floor while averaging 18.5 points and 14 rebounds. his stellar play of late has propelled the Terriers to six straight conference victories and a tie for second place.

 

Josh Tanguay, Me.-Farmington
(Junior, Forward - Gorham, Maine)
Tanguay helped the Beavers to a pair of NAC wins in a 2-1 week with double-doubles in both contests. The junior scored 21 points with 13 rebounds in a win at Green Mountain and 21 points and 15 boards (11 offensive) in a victory at Castleton. For the week, Tanguay averaged 18.3 points and 12.3 rebounds per game with five blocks. He made 25 of 34 (.735) shots from the field.

(Freshman, Guard - Lyndonville, Vt.)
Sackett averaged 12.7 points in three conference contests for Lyndon State. The freshman guard had 14 points in a 73-64 loss to Johnson State on Tuesday and on Saturday he scored 17 points in a 75-68 loss to Maine Maritime.

Ted Neil, Me.-Farmington
(SR, F - Strong, ME)
Neil helped the Beavers to a 3-0 week with a pair of career-high scoring nights. Neil tallied 25 points, including five 3-pointers, in a win over Johnson State and, the following afternoon, scored 26 points with eight 3-pointers in a victory over Lyndon State. On the week, Neil averaged 18.3 points per game connecting on 20 of 32 field goal attempts (62.5%), including 13 of 22 threes (59.1%).

Rodgers came off the bench to help the Terriers sweep three conference victories this week. On the week he averaged 11.7ppg and 9.3 rebounds. Against Johnson St., Rodgers had career highs with 17 points and 13 rebounds. He shot 63% from the floor for the three games (15-25).

Andrew Duncanson, Thomas College
(Sophomore, Guard - Portland, ME)
Andrew Duncanson led Thomas College to a 1-1 record this week in conference play. In a 76-72 loss to Husson University, Duncanson scored 23 points while adding five assists. In a 74-65 win over the University of Maine at Farmington, the sophomore would tally 29 points on the night, with 21 of those coming in the second half, and also led the team with eight rebounds. Duncanson shot 54.3% (19-35) from the field in his contests this week while averaging his 26 points, 6 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2 steals per game.

(Freshman, Guard - Lyndonville, VT)
Sackett has made an immediate impact on the Lyndon State College men's basketball program, averaging 17 points per game and knocking down 13 three-point field goals. On Tuesday, Jan. 13, he scored 16 points, including four threes, in the Hornets' 70-66 victory over Green Mountain College. On Friday, Sackett tallied 11 points (two treys) in a 78-65 loss to New Hampshire Tech. The shrap-shooting freshman saved his best performance for his first home game in a LSC uniform as he tossed in 24 points, 21 of which came from beyond the three-point arc, as Lyndon pulled away to a 98-86 win over UMaine-Augusta.

The Eagles were 1-1 this week in two non conference contest. MacKenzie averaged 20 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2 steals and shot 58% FG on the week. He paced the Eagles to a 75-72 win over U. Southern Maine with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals. He followed that up with a 23 points and 6 rebound effort in a 77-71 loss to Colby College.

 

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Nate Dodge, Johnson State College
(So., F - Burlington, Vt.)
Nate Dodge led Johnson State to a 2-0 week by averaging 14.5 points, six rebounds, two assists, a block, and a steal. Dodge canned 11 of 18 shots (61%) from the floor and four of seven 3-point field goals (57%) in the two wins. His career-high 18-point effort lifted JSC to a win over New England College and his 11-point effort, eight-rebound effort against SUNY-Canton sparked the Badgers to their third consecutive win and fifth in six games.

McKenzie averaged 17.5 points and five rebounds while shooting 14-27 from the field as Husson went 1-1. The junior forward earned all-tournament honors at the CUA/Residence Inn-Greenbelt Classic in Washington D.C.

Brad Durr, Lyndon State College
(Senior, Center - Windham, Conn.))
Durr scored 32 points and collected 19 rebounds Sunday as Lyndon State topped SUNY-Cobleskill 85-76. On Thursday, Dec. 11, Durr helped the Hornets end a 30-year losing streak to Plymouth State University with a 13-point, 12-rebound performance in a 59-55 LSC victory. For the week the senior center averaged 22.5 points and 15.5 rebounds while shooting 54% from the floor.

 

 

 

Josh Tanguay, Me.-Farmington
(JR, C - Gorham, ME)
Tanguay scored a career-high 28 points, including 12 of 13 from the field, and matched a career best with 13 rebounds in the Beavers' win over NAC foe Thomas. The junior also scored 20 points and grabbed 11 boards in a loss to UNE and eight points in a loss to USM. On the week Tanguay averaged 18.6 points and nine rebounds while shooting 73% (24-33) from the field.

Travis Debreaux, Green Mountain College
(FR, F - Baltimore, MD)
In helping Green Mountain finish the week 2-0, Debreaux averaged 17.5ppg and 9.0rpg. In a 64-59 win vs the College of St. Joseph, Debreaux scored 14 points and added 8 rebounds, and then helped GMC to a 79-64 victory over Vermont Tech on Saturday with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Gerard Johnson, Green Mountain College
(SO, F - Binghamton, NY)
Johnson scored 13 points on 5-8 shooting from the field and collected 13 rebounds in Green Mountain's 64-60 win vs Framingham St on Friday night, and added 10 points, 11 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks in helping Green Mountain knock off Mitchell College 82-73 in the championship of the Crusader Classic. Johnson was named the tournament's most valuable player after helping Green Mountain to the tournament title. In a win earlier in the week, Johnson scored 18 points on 8-for-8 shooting in just 17 minutes.

Nate Dodge helped JSC to a 2-1 week by averaging 8.3 ppg, 1.7 rpg, and 1.3 apg while shooting 50% (12-24) from the field. His 14 points off the JSC bench helped propel the Badgers to a 76-74 win over Vermont Tech on Tuesday.

John Foley averaged 18.5 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 2 apg, and 1 spg in helping Johnson State to a 1-1 record at the Western Connecticut State University Tournament. Foley scored 20 in the opener against the host and then tallied a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Medgar Evers College.

Leandro Martinez scored a career-high 26 points, including four three-pointers, in the Badgers 93-86 road loss at Daniel Webster College.

Velazquez scored a team-high 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds in Castleton's only game of the week, a 68-57 loss at New England College

Cesar Martinez, Lyndon State College
(Senior, Guard - East Harlem, NY)
Martinez scored 25 points, collected eight rebounds and handed out four assists in a 74-71 loss to Mount Ida College in the opening round of the New England College Alumni Tip-off Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 15. In the tourney's consolation game on Sunday, Nov. 16, Martinez tossed in 20 points and had four assists in a 72-68 win over New England College. Martinez's efforts landed him on the All-Tournament Team.

(So. (Rookie), Forward - East Montpelier, VT)
Hass averaged 14.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in a pair of losses at the Blazer Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Elms College. Hass shot 50% from the field (14-28) and hauled in 7 offensive rebounds in being named to the all-tournament team.
