Amherst, MA - Four North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's lacrosse players were recently recognized by the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) for outstanding academic and athletic careers.
Northern Vermont University-Lyndon player Spencer Aubin (Sharon, MA) and three players from Husson University, Matt Martin (Litchfield, Maine), Chad Merrill (Sabattus, Maine), and Blane Miller (Bowdoinham, Maine), have been named to the NEILA 2019 Academic All-New England Team. Members of the team are nominated by head coaches in Divisions I, II, and III. The team is comprised of student athletes who have excelled both in the classroom and on the field over the course of their men's lacrosse careers.
Aubin, a senior mountain recreation management major, led the Hornets with 34 goals and 18 assists this season. He was named the Hornets' Most Valuable Player, and was named to the NAC Sportsmanship Team. A four-year starter, he is also a two-time NAC All-Conference selection.
Merrill, a nursing major, was a First-Team All-Conference selection and the 2019 NAC Defensive Player of the Year. Martin (Sport Management) and Miller (Computer Information Systems) were Second-Team All-Conference selections this season.
128 senior student-athletes, including 90 from NCAA Division III, were selected to the NEILA Academic All-New England Team. To be considered for selection, a student athlete must have achieved senior standing, a minimum GPA of 3.0, and be a significant contributor to his team.
