NAC East Men's Tennis All-Conference Honors Announced; Braden & Marcil Earn Top Honors

Green Mountain junior Connor Braden (Lafayette, Ind.) has been selected as the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) East Division Men's Tennis Player of the Year, while Castleton junior Seth Marcil (Brattleboro, Vt.) was tabbed Rookie of the Year and Green Mountain head coach Ted Panasci was named Coach of the Year to headline the 2015 All-Conference announcement. The Johnson State men's tennis team was voted to receive the Team Sportsmanship Award.

NAC East all-conference selections are determined by a vote of the conference coaches.

Braden has been a key contributor at the No. 1 position for both singles and doubles for the Eagles the past three seasons. The junior will enter the NAC East Championship Tournament with a 9-1 overall record from the first position in the team's lineup, which includes a 5-1 record in conference action this spring. The 2013 NAC Rookie of the Year has accumulated a career record of 29-2 overall in his three years as the team's top seeded singles player and an 20-12 overall record in first flight doubles action. Out of his 29 career wins, he has only been pushed to a third set three times. Braden has been equally impressive in conference singles, notching a 15-2 career record, while sporting an 11-7 record in conference doubles play. The junior has been honored on the NAC All-Conference singles and doubles first team all three seasons and has earned NAC Player of the Week five times in his career.

Marcil posted a team-best 15 victories in all competitions this season. The first-year tennis student-athlete compiled a 9-4 record in singles, with all nine wins coming in straight sets fashion, while also collecting six wins in doubles action, including five in the top-flight. His most impressive victories of the season came against Green Mountain, as he knocked off then-undefeated Nate Berner-Tobin in a second-flight match with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 score. Just over a week later, Marcil followed that performance by ending Jack Hepburn's seven-match unbeaten run with a 6-1, 6-3 victory en route to finishing the season with three-straight singles victories. The junior earned NAC East Player of the Week during his rookie campaign this season.

Panasci has earned his second-consecutive NAC Coach of the Year award. The five-year mentor directed the Eagles to a 7-4 overall record, including a 3-3 mark in conference play and the No. 4 seed in the upcoming NAC East Championship Tournament. This year's seven overall wins marked the most a Green Mountain team has achieved since joining the NAC in 2009. Under Coach Panasci's watchful eye, Green Mountain produced its only NAC Rookie of the Year in 2013 and Player of the Year in 2015 along with eight all-conference selections. During his tenure, Green Mountain has also placed eight men's tennis players on NAC All-Academic teams. The Eagles will be competing for their first NAC East championship title.

Joining Braden and Marcil on first team singles were Colby-Sawyer freshman Rico Bailey (Mattapan, Mass.) and sophomore Cass McCann (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada), MCLA freshman Aaron Goldsmith (Mattapan, Mass.) and Thomas senior Eric Morin (Lewiston, Maine) and junior Tyler Small (Surry, Maine).

First team doubles selections include the Colby-Sawyer tandem of Bailey and McCann, the Green Mountain duo of Braden and Nate Berner-Tobin (Stratham, N.H.), and the Thomas team of Morin and Small.

Second team singles honorees include Lyndon junior Tyler Hall (Keene, N.H.), Castleton sophomore Kyle Martin (West Rutland, Vt.), Colby-Sawyer freshman Andrew Peloquin (Greenville, R.I.) and senior Sergio Spassof (Pallini, Greece), and MCLA sophomore Rob Wabshinak (Brewster, N.Y.).
