PLAYER & ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Nick Mathieu, Colby-Sawyer (Fr. - Topsham, Maine)
Mathieu won all four of his matches in a 1-1 week for the Chargers. He began the week with a pair of victories in a 9-0 win over Johnson, as he teamed with Gustav Jigrup at the top doubles flight to win 8-0 and then defeated his No. 2 singles opponent without dropping a game. In a tough 6-3 loss to Nichols, Mathieu was responsible for two of the Chargers' three points. He and Jigrup earned an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles. In his singles match against the Bison, Mathieu came away with a marathon come-from-behind win at the second flight over Guilherme Barbosa. After dropping the first set 6-2, Mathieu won the next two in lengthy tie-breakers, taking the second set 7-6 (15-13) and then the third 7-6 (14-12).
AROUND THE NAC
Castleton got back on track with a pair of 9-0 conference wins over Lyndon and Johnson. The Spartans, who improved to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the NAC, will return to action at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday for a conference contest at MCLA.
Colby-Sawyer split a pair of matches last week. The team opened conference play with a 9-0 win over Johnson before falling to Nichols, 6-3. The Chargers are slated to host Saint Anselm before traveling to Lyndon and Middlebury over the weekend.
Johnson went 1-2 this past week, starting with a 6-3 non-conference win over Lyndon on Tuesday. The Badgers opened their conference slate over the weekend, falling to Colby-Sawyer on Saturday and Castleton on Sunday.
Lyndon dropped all three matches last week. On Tuesday, the Hornets fell to Johnson, 6-3, in a non-conference match. Then on the weekend they dropped a pair of NAC matches, 9-0 to Castleton on Saturday and 8-1 to MCLA on Sunday.
MCLA went 1-1 in conferene matches lst week, falling to Thomas 9-0 and defeating Lyndon 8-1. The Trailblazers have a non-conference match with Lyndon scheduled for Wednesday and will compete in NAC East action against Castleton on Saturday.
Thomas capped off another perfect 3-0 week as the Terriers earned 9-0 victories over Southern Maine, MCLA, and Suffolk. The team will head to Johnson on Saturday for a conference match at 2:00 p.m.
