PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Kevin Eisenberg, Castleton

Eisenberg earned North Atlantic Conference (NAC) East Division Tournament Most Valuable Player honors with a 2-0 performance at second singles in the conference tournament Saturday. Eisenberg earned a three-set win over fellow All-Tournament selection Andre Giguere (3-6, 6-2, 6-3) from Thomas in the semifinal round, and followed up with a straight-set 6-4, 6-0 win in the final.

Eisenberg was a perfect 3-0 in number-two singles as Castleton posted wins over Colby-Sawyer, Johnson State and Lyndon. The sophomore did not drop a set all week, and never lost more than three games.

Henry was a perfect 3-0 in number-three singles this week, helping Castleton to wins over Colby-Sawyer, Johnson State and Lyndon. Henry dropped just four games in winning three straight-set matches.

Tyler Schofield, Lyndon
(Sophomore, - Middleboro, Mass.)
Schofield record back-to-back victories in singles and doubles over the weekend as Lyndon ran its overall record to 2-3 and its mark in the North Atlantic Conference to 2-2. Schofield opend the weekend by teaming with Michael Howard to record a 8-3 win over Green Mountain's Sam Dixon and Samantha Tarijirian in No. 1 doubles. Later in the day, he defeated the Eagles' Christopher Donovan 6-2, 6-1 in second singles. On Sunday, Schofield led Lyndon to an 8-1 win over Thomas to avenge a loss to the Terriers earlier this season. He and Howard earned a 8-3 No. 1 doubles win over Thomas' Jeremy Cliff and Andrew Folan before turning in a dominating 6-0, 6-0 victory over Mathew Bolstridge in second singles.

 

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Chance Swafford, Johnson State College
(Fr., 2 - North Troy, Vt.)
Chance Swafford helped JSC to an 8-1 win over visiting Thomas College on Saturday in the Badgers only match of the week. Swafford won at #2 singles 6-1, 6-2 and then team with Ryan Joy for a 8-4 win at #1 doubles.

Jeremy Cliff , Thomas College
(Sr., - Bangor, Maine)
Cliff remains undefeated on the season in singles play after three matches this past week. On Tuesday Cliff won his match at #1 singles over Jon Sproul of USM, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4). He also won his #1 doubles on Tuesday 4/5 teaming with Andre Giguere to beat Jon Sproul and Chris G. Ross 8-2. On Saturday 4/9 Cliff won his match at #1 singles over Justin Garritt of Castleton 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. He teamed with Andrew Folan to win at #1 Doubles over Justin Garritt and Kevin Eisenberg 8-3. On Sunday Cliff won his match at #1 singles vs. Mike Howard of Lyndon State College 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. He also won at #1 Doubles by teaming with Andrew Folan to down Mike Howard and Tyler Schofield of Lyndon 8-5.

Henry continued his hot streak this past week, posting a 3-0 mark in singles and a 2-1 effort at doubles as Castleton defeated Norwich, Lyndon and Thomas. The freshman was a straight-set winner in all three matches, dropping just three games on the week. In doubles action, after falling to Norwich Henry stormed back with Greg Klopfer for 8-0 wins over Lyndon and Thomas.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Calvin Henry, Castleton

Henry helped Castleton to a 2-0 week posting a pair of wins in number three singles over Green Mountain (9-0) and Cobleskill (5-4). Henry's 6-3, 6-1 win over Cobleskill proved pivotal, as Castleton dropped the top two matches before sweeping the bottom four. Henry teamed with Willie Levine for a 1-1 week in second doubles, turning in an 8-2 win over Green Mountain before losing 8-6 to Cobleskill.

 

 

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Chance Swafford, Johnson State College
(Fr., #3 - North Troy, Vt.)
Freshman Chance Swafford had a strong collegiate debut for Johnson State this weekend winning both of his #3 flight singles matches and going 1-1 in doubles play. Swafford's 6-1, 6-0 win over his Thomas College opponent on Saturday helped the Badgers to a 6-3 team win while also teaming with Ben Algar for a #2 doubles flight win in the match. Swafford snagged JSC's only team point in a hard-faught 7-6, 6-4 #3 singles flight win over his opponent from the University of Southern Maine.

Justin Garritt, Castleton
(Sr., - Liberty, N.Y.)
Garritt led Castleton to a perfect 2-0 week, earning shutout wins over Sage and Johnson State. The senior posted two wins at #1 singles and teamed with Kevin Eisenberg for a pair of #1 doubles wins. Garritt did not drop a set all week, battling through a first-set tie-breaker in the singles win over Johnson, and earning a 9-7 victory in doubles versus the Badgers.
