NAC Softball Tournament Day 2

Waterville, Maine - Husson University and Thomas College will compete for the 2019 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Softball Championship tomorrow, Sunday, May 5. With one loss heading into the final day, Thomas will force a Game 7 with a win in the 11:00 AM game, while Husson enters the championship undefeated and a chance to win the title in Game 6. If necessary, Game 7 will be played at 1:30 PM. UMaine-Farmington (UMF) and UMaine-Presque Isle (UMPI) were eliminated from the tournament with two losses each.


Game 3: #3 UMPI 1 / #2 UMF 0 BOX SCORE

UMaine-Farmington's softball team battled UMaine-Presque Isle in a tight game in the NAC softball tournament on Saturday afternoon.


  • Brianna McGrath threw six innings for the Beavers in the circle, giving up five hits and one earned run with seven strikeouts.
  • Alyssa Dillan, Melissa Veitch, Broghan Gagnon, Karen Flaherty, and Kailyn Hill each notched one hit for the Beavers.
  • Brookelynn Garcia threw seven innings, giving up five hits with nine strikeouts for the Owls.
  • Anaiz Diaz went 1-1 with one RBI as Marissa Reagle went 2-3 with one run.
  • Delanie Strout went 1-2 alongside Jordan Hansen who went 1-3.


Game 4: #1 Thomas 6 / #2 Husson 7 BOX SCORE

Olivia Smith (Calais, Maine) drove in the game's first run when she singled Bri Brochu (Pittston, Maine) in to score in the bottom of the first. The Terriers answered the next inning when Katlyn Coulter (Jefferson, N.H.) hit a leadoff home run to tie it 1-1 in the second.

Thomas took the lead in the top of the third with a Sydney LeBourveau (Jericho, Vt.) sacrifice fly giving Thomas a 2-1 edge. Husson was quick to take back the lead in the bottom of the inning, With an Arika Brochu (Augusta, Maine) home run and Smith RBI single making it a 3-2 game.

Thomas took back the lead and put some distance between themselves and Husson in the fourth, scoring four runs to go up 6-3. Katie Taylor (Lebanon, Maine) started the scoring with an RBI double, then Anna Piirainen (West Paris, Maine) scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-3. Taylor scored on a throwing error following a Lauren Guppy (New Sharon, Maine) single, then a Bess sacrifice fly made it 6-3.

The Eagles tied the game 6-6 with a three-run home run by Smith. Husson got the eventual game-winner in the bottom of the sixth, with a Jen Jones (Acton, Maine) single scoring the go ahead run to make it a 7-6 final.

Jones earned the win in the circle for Husson, pitching three perfect innings in relief of starter A. Brochu, who allowed three earned runs on eight hits in four innings.

Kelsey Currier (Cumberland, Maine) took the loss, giving up four earned runs on seven hits in two innings of relief. Thomas starter Coulter allowed three runs with six hits in four innings.


Game 5: #1 Thomas 5 / #3 UMPI 4 BOX SCORE

UMPI struck first in the top of the first with a Melanee Terry bringing in the game's first run to make it 1-0. Thomas evened it back up in the bottom inning when Lexi Colpack (Franklin, N.H.) scored on a wild pitch. The score stayed tied until a Sarah Duncklee (Kearny, Ariz.) hit a solo shot in the fourth to put the Owls on top 2-1.

Thomas scored three in the bottom of the fifth to regain the lead, 4-2. A Colpack single brought Piirainen in to score, followed by a two-run single by LeBourveau giving Thomas the lead.

UMPI tied it back up once again in the top of the sixth when Terry hit a two-run home run to center to make it 4-4.

The Terriers ended it in the bottom of the seventh when Bess hit a dribbler down the third baseline that was fielded by the third baseman, who's throw to the plate was not in time to beat a diving Colpack as the Terriers went on with the 5-4 walk off win.

Coulter earned the complete-game win for Thomas, allowing four runs on six hits with three strikeouts.

Marissa Valdivia Reagle (Seattle, Wash.) took the loss for UMPI, allowing three runs in 4.1 innings of work on five hits.
