WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College softball team fell to Husson University in Game 6 of the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Tournament on Sunday morning at the Softball Field on the campus of Colby College. Husson takes their second-consecutive NAC Title after going undefeated in the double elimination tournament.
After a scoreless first inning, Husson got on the board in the bottom of the second when Whitney Bess (Madison, Maine) and Kylie Cunningham (Bangor, Maine) scored on an error to make it 2-0. Morgan Coleman (Acton, Maine) made it 3-0 with an RBI single that brought Arika Brochu (Augusta, Maine) in to score.
The Eagles put the game out of reach in the fourth when Coleman smacked a grand slam down the left field line to make it 7-0. The Eagles walked off in the fifth with the 8-0 win with an Olivia Smith (Calais, Maine) single to the right field corner that brought Brochu in to score. Smith was named Most Valuable Player of the championship tournament.
Jen Jones (Acton, Maine) pitched a five-inning perfect game in the circle for the Eagles, striking out four.
Katlyn Coulter (Jefferson, N.H.) look the loss for Thomas, allowing five runs, one earned, on six hits.
Husson advances to the NCAA Division III Softball Championship, and awaits selections on Monday at 1:00 PM. Watch the selection show live HERE.
