LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced the 364 players chosen for the 2019 NCAA Division III All-Region softball teams. The squad is comprised of three 15-player teams — plus voting ties — in each of the country's eight NCAA regions.
North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Pitcher of the Year, Jen Jones of Husson University, was selected to the New England Region Third Team in an at-large position.
Husson junior Jen Jones (Acton, Maine) earned her second-consecutive NAC Softball Pitcher of the Year award in 2019. Jones was selected as the NAC Player and Pitcher of the Week (April 7), and also earned Fastpitch News National Player of the Week honors (April 11). Jones racked up 50 strikeouts, four wins, and one save over 36 innings pitched, while allowing only five earned runs for a .97 ERA in six starts and seven total conference game appearances. She allowed only one home run, one triple, and two doubles while tallying 9.72 strikeouts per seven innings. An accurate pitcher, she is charged with only one wild pitch while holding opponents to .175 batting average in 126 at bats. Jones also contributed on the other side of the plate with 14 hits in 29 at bats (.483), including five doubles and a home run, while only striking out twice. She scored 13 runs and batted in 11 more to help the Eagles enter the NAC Championship tournament with the No. 2 seed.
In the Eagles' first game of the NAC Championship, Jones pitched seven innings with six scattered hits and a walk in the 9-6 win. In Game 4 of the tournament, the second game for Husson, Jones pitched three innings of relief, holding Thomas batters hitless in the walk-off win for the Eagles. Facing top-seeded Thomas again in the championship game, Jones pitched a perfect five-inning shutout for her 13th win of the season and a ticket to the NCAA Division III Softball Championship. She struck out 14 batters, and also had five hits and an RBI of her own, in the double-elimination tournament.
In the first game of the NCAA DIII regional round, Jones pitched another gem, going 9.2 innings with 10 strikeouts and only two scattered hits before MIT won with a walk-off home run in the tenth inning. She pitched 4.2 innings of relief the next day, striking out six batters.
In total for the season, Jones hit .432 with a .636 slugging percentage over 26 games. She tallied 38 hits, 10 doubles, a triple, and two home runs. Jones scored 21 runs and tacked on 27 RBIs. She also earned 13 wins in 18 starts on the mound. She pitched 15 complete games and four shutouts while also earning one save. She allowed 29 earned runs in 486 at-bats against over 133.1 innings for a 1.53 ERA.
All-Region players are nominated and selected by NFCA member coaches in each of the eight Division III regions. First team All-Region choices are eligible for selection to the NFCA All-America team, which will be announced the evening of May 22 online at NFCA.org and in person at the NCAA Division III Championship banquet in Tyler, Texas.
