Women's Soccer All-Conference Honors 2019

Maine Maritime Academy claimed four of the five major North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Women's Soccer post season awards, including Player of the Year Eryn Doiron, Defensive Player of the Year Margot Simeon, Rookie of the Year Laura Blue, and Coach of the Year Seth Brown. Husson University's Allison Carey was selected as the Senior Scholar Athlete.

In addition to the major conference awards, 23 student athletes were named to the All-Conference First and Second Teams, and nine players were selected to the Sportsmanship Team. The NAC Women's Soccer Sportsmanship Team is reserved for those who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior. The honorees positively affect the women's soccer culture and match environment by clearly demonstrating sportsmanship and integrity beyond the sport playing rules and etiquette.

The 2019 NAC Women's Soccer Championship tournament is underway, with the final four scheduled for this weekend at Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, Maine. Semifinal games between Maine Maritime and SUNY Delhi, and Husson and UMaine-Farmington, are Friday, November 8th. The championship game will be Sunday, November 10.  Follow all the championship action here.

Player of the Year

Eryn Doiron (Wilton, Maine) - Maine Maritime Academy

Eryn Doiron (Wilton, Maine) is the 2019 North Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Year. Doiron led the league in goals, with 11 in conference games and 20 total. Her goal tally plus two assists means she also led the league in total points with 24 in conference games and 43 overall. The First Team All-Conference midfielder was called on to serve the team on three penalty kicks, two coming in league games, and made all three. Two of her conference goals were game-winners, and she tacked on another game-winner in non-conference action. The senior earned NAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week accolades twice this season (9/2-9/8, 10/7-10/13) for her dominant performance that led to the Mariners unblemished conference record and top seed in the upcoming NAC Championship tournament.

Defensive Player of the Year

Margot Simeon (Findlay, Ohio) - Maine Maritime Academy

The North Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Year is sophomore Margot Simeon (Findlay, Ohio) of Maine Maritime Academy. Simeon led the Mariners' defensive unit from the midfield position, which in eight conference games only allowed three goals total (.37 goals-against-average) from teams that averaged 2.27 goals-per-NAC game. Goalkeepers Emily Conway and Bess MacArthur had to make only 19 saves (16 and three, respectively) in league games behind Simeon's wall of defense, which racked up six conference shutouts and three more in non-conference contests. Maine Maritime amassed a league-low 1.09 goals-against-average across all 15 games on their schedule this fall. Simeon was recognized as the NAC Defensive Player of the Week three times this season (9/16-9/22, 10/7-10/13, 10/21-10/29) for her herculean efforts, and even chipped in offensively with two goals and one assist for five points in conference games.

Rookie of the Year

Laura Blue (Brisbane, Australia) - Maine Maritime Academy

First-year forward Laura Blue (Brisbane, Australia) of Maine Maritime Academy is the 2019 North Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Rookie of the Year. Despite contending with injury for most of October, Blue was a force for the undefeated Mariners. In only five NAC games, she scored three goals, two of which were game-winners. The first game-winner came in the 105th minute of a double-overtime battle with SUNY Delhi in late September, after assisting the game-tying goal with under nine minutes left in regulation. Her second NAC game-winner was in the final conference game of the regular season. Blue played in ten games total, and and racked up six goals with four game-winners across the Mariners' schedule. Blue was selected as the Rookie of the Week three times (9/16-9/22, 9/23-9/29, 10/21-10/29), doubling up on September 22nd with both Rookie and Player of the Week honors.
