2016 NAC Volleyball Championship Final Set: Colby-Sawyer vs. Maine Maritime

With the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) volleyball semifinals complete, the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds will compete for the 2016 NAC Championship title on Saturday, November 5.

Top-seeded Maine Maritime earned a 3-0 victory (25-14, 25-10, 25-19) over No. 4 Lyndon, while No. 2 Colby-Sawyer claimed a 3-1 win (24-16, 25-15, 25-19) over No. 3 Husson.

The Mariners and Chargers will square off for the conference championship for the sixth-consecutive year on Saturday, at 12:00 p.m. at Maine Maritime. During the regular season when these two teams played, Maine Maritime earned a 3-0 victory (25-23, 25-18, 25-12).

The NAC Champion will receive an automatic berth to the 2016 NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship.

No. 1 Maine Maritime 3, No. 4 Lyndon - Boxscore

The top seeded Maine Maritime Academy volleyball team defeated fourth seed Lyndon 3-0 (25-14, 25-10, 25-19) on Friday night in the North Atlantic Conference Semifinals.

Gillian O'Neal and Tess Clark each tallied five kills in the first set to lead the Mariners to a 25-14 win. Sydney Adams combined for eight aces in the first two sets and tallied two in the final stretch to lead the Mariners to a 25-10 win in the second set. Clark tallied five kills in the third set to help lead the Mariners to a 25-19 win.

Clark led the Mariners with a double-double of 13 kills and 10 digs while teammate O'Neal tallied a double-double of her own with 12 digs and 11 kills. Adams tied her career and season-high of eight aces, while also chipping in with seven digs, Alexa Cacacie added seven kills, five blocks and an assist, while Maria Perez led all players with 13 digs.

Faith Richard and Abbey Greene led the Hornets with two kills each, while Greene also added four digs, two aces and a block. Lauren McDonough tallied a team-high 10 digs and Gwyneth Stahl added a team-best six assists.

The Mariners (21-8) advance to the NAC Championship tomorrow inside of Smith Gym at 12:00 pm, while the Hornets conclude their season at 11-10 overall.

No. 2 Colby-Sawyer 3, No. 3 Husson - Boxscore

No 2 seed Colby-Sawyer picked up a 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-19) victory over No. 3 seed Husson University on Friday evening in the North Atlantic Conference Semifinal match, played at the top seed, Maine Maritime Academy.

Gabrielle Rodriguez led Colby-Sawyer with 12 kills, nine digs, two aces, an assist and a block, Ashley Kinley tallied a match-high 14 digs, while teammate Monika Scheindel tallied 11 digs. Morgan Flynn added 10 digs and an ace and Jaia Woodland added nine kills, a dig and a block. Caroline McCoy tallied four aces, while Olivia Goodrich tallied a match-high 34 assists.

Bailey Cote and Mary Grace Power led the Eagles with three kills each, while Power also added nine digs. Delany Chisholm led the team with 10 digs and Hanna Hembrow also chipped in with nine digs and seven assists.

The Chargers (11-20) advance to the NAC Championship, where they will face the top ranked Maine Maritime Academy Mariners tomorrow at 12:00 pm in Castine, while the Eagles conclude their season with a 15-15 overall record.
