NAC Women's Volleyball Weekly Honors

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Amy Young, Maine Maritime
(Jr., MH - Cumberland, ME)
Young showed why she was voted the NAC Player of the Year, leading her squad to the NAC Women's Volleyball Championship with 23 kills and 21 digs in two matches this weekend.  In a semifinal win over Maine-Farmington, she collected 13 kills, 15 digs, and 2 blocks. In the title match against Husson, the Lady Mariners were once again led by Young who had 10 kills, 6 digs and 4 service aces.

Jenna Rowan, Me.-Farmington
(SO, OH - Kittery, ME)
Rowan led the Beavers to a 3-0 opening-round victory over Thomas with seven kills, an assist, four service aces, four digs and a block assist.

 

 

 

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Kayley Rodriguez, Maine Maritime Academy
(Freshman, Setter - Quincy, IL)
In MMA's only match this week the freshman outside hitter moved over to the setter position and collected a season high 28 assists. MMA won the match 3-0 over UMaine Machias. Rodriguez also collected 2 kills, 3 aces and 4 digs in the lopsided match.

Marion Kish, Husson University
(Jr, s - Wallingford, CT)
The Eagles won their only match this week 3-0 over Thomas. Kish had 25 asssits, 7 digs, and 6 service aces in the win. Husson was undefeated in NAC play and earned the #1 seed.

 

 

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Shannon Mitchell, Me.-Farmington
(FR, RS - Portsmouth, NH)
Mitchell collected 11 kills with one error in 22 attacks (.455 hitting percentage) in a 3-0 NAC win over Lyndon State -- the Beavers' only game last week. Mitchell also had four digs, a solo block and a block assist.

CO-PLAYERS OF THE  WEEK

Amy Young, Maine Maritime Academy
(Junior, Middle Hitter - Cumberland, ME)
Amy had an outstanding week leading the Lady Mariners to a 3-0 record this week with wins over Husson, Thomas and UMaine Farmington. Young had 10 kills on 18 attempts (.444%) with 9 digs and 2 blocks in MMA's 3-0 win over Husson. She followed that up with 10 kills on 12 attempts (.750%) to go along with 6 aces in their win over Thomas. She ended her weekend with a 9 kill performance against the Beavers while collecting 3 aces, 11 digs and 2 blocks.

(JR, S - Wallingford, CT)
The Eagles were 2-1 this week, going 2-0 in NAC play and securing the #1 overall seed. Kish had 60 assists, 9 aces, and 9 digs in three matches this week. She had 45 assists in the two conference wins.

Heather Moore, Maine Maritime Academy
(Freshman, Setter - Macedon, NY)
The freshman setter helped MMA to a 3-0 week collecting 72 assists, 8 kills on 14 attempts, and 6 service aces.

 

 

 

 

 

Kaityln McKay, Husson University
(Fy, MH - Lincoln, RI)
The Eagles secured the #1 seed with two NAC wins this week, finishing the week 2-1. McKay had 18 kills, 7 aces, 6 digs, 7 solo blocks, and 4 block assists on the week. She recorded 5 solo blocks and 3 block assists along with 6 kills and 3 aces in the match against UMF.

Jamie Lemieux, Castleton State College
(Jr., Middle Hitter - Argyle, NY)
Lemieux was nearly flawless in Castleton's only match of the week, a 3-0 win over Paul Smith's College. The junior middle hitter record 12 kills on 13 attempts with zero errors (.923 attack percentage). Lemieux also tallied one assist, one dig and 1.5 blocks on the day.

Shannon Mitchell, Me.-Farmington
(FR, RS - Portsmouth, NH)
Mitchell helped the Beavers in a 2-1 weekend with 23 kills, eight errors in 55 attempts (.273 hitting percentage) with 13 total blocks (three solo, 10 assists).

The Eagles pushed their NAC record to 4-0 with two conference wins this week. Kish set a career high with 38 assists against MMA along with 15 digs and 3 aces. Against Lyndon she had 20 assists and 6 aces.

Lindsay Hansen, Me.-Farmington
(FR, OH - Gorham, ME)
Hansen helped the Beavers to three NAC victories with 14 kills and five errors in 39 attempts (.256), 28 assists, 25 digs and a block.

Allison Chepke, Husson University
(So, OH - North Jackson, OH)
The Eagles were 2-1 this week with wins over UMF and UMPI. Chepke had 27 kills, 25 digs, and 9 aces on the week. She hit a combined .409 in the two wins over the weekend. The Eagles lost to NCAA I U. Maine Orono.

Mitchell helped the Beavers in a 1-2 week. Mitchell collected 27 kills and 35 digs on the week, including a 12-kill, 13-dig effort in a 3-2 loss to St. Joseph's.

The Eagles were 3-0 this week including 2-0 in NAC play. Kish recorded a career high of 34 assists in a win over Green Mountian College. She finished the week with 80 assists, 6 kills, 17 service aces, and 22 digs.

(Junior, Middle Hitter - Cumberland, ME)
Amy led MMA to a 3-0 week and a share of the top spot in the NAC standings. The junior middle hitter collected 35 kills with only 5 attack errors and a hitting percentage of 41%. Young also collected 9 assists, 7 aces, and 16 digs. The junior had an amazing 33 reception attempts in the 3 matches with only 3 errors. In MMA's match against Green Mountain College she recorded 16 kills, 3 assists, 4 aces, 6 digs and block assist.

Lauren Sakahara, Maine Maritime Academy
(Freshman, Libero - Bellevue, WA)
The freshman Libero added another accolade to her already fast start to her collegiate career. In MMA's victory over Green Mountain Sakahara collected a school record 30 digs on their way to a 3-1 match win. The freshman had 60 digs in three matches this week and had only 5 reception errors in 49 reception attempts this week. She also collected 6 aces and 6 kills from the back row.

Amy had an outstanding week for the Lady Mariners against stiff competition. In her three matches against Bates, Simmons and Lesley, she collected 29 kills, 7 assists, had 4 aces, 17 digs, and 5 blocks.

Kayla Brobst, Lyndon State College
(Freshman, Hitter - Merrimack, NH)
Brobst had 2 kills, 7 aces and 17 digs in 3-0 win over Southern Vermont College followed by 7 kills, 7 aces and 16 digs in 3-1 loss to UMaine-Machias later that day.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Danielle O'Brien, Me.-Farmington
(SR, MH - Calais, Maine)
Despite a 3-1 week for the Beavers, O'Brien opened strong with 35 kills and six errors in 79 attempts for a .367 hitting average. O'Brien collected 13 kills with eight digs in a 3-2 win over NAC preseason favorite Husson on Saturday.

Heather had an outstanding weekend and was named to the Colby College Invitational All-Tournament team for her efforts. The freshman setter collected 43 assists, 8 kills, and 8 digs in the three matches MMA played.
