Player of the Week

Matt Ortiz, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts

MCLA’s Matt Ortiz helped propel the Trailblazers to a pair of wins last week, including a victory in their NAC opener. Ortiz opened the week with an assist and winning 12 of 14 face-offs in the Trailblazers’ 9-4 victory over Salem State. He also has nine ground balls in the contest with one caused turnovers. In Saturday’s NAC opener against Cazenovia College, Ortiz charted three goals with 14 ground balls and two caused turnovers while winning 20 of 26 face-offs in a 23-2 win over the Wildcats. For the week, Ortiz was .800 on face-offs and averaged 11.5 ground balls per game.
 

Defensive Player of the Week

Jed Astbury, Maine Maritime Academy
Senior | Midfielder | Bridgewater, Vermont
Maine Maritime’s Jed Astbury was part of a Mariner squad that held Salem State, who were averaging 7.8 goals per game, to just one goal in a 28-1 victory over the Vikings. He tallied 17 ground balls to set a new MMA single-game record, and charted an impressive 23-of-26 (.885) in face-offs.
 

Rookie of the Week

Sam Bieber, SUNY Delhi

In an early season clash between two of the NAC’s top teams, SUNY Delhi’s Sam Bieber charted four goals in 11 shots to lead the Broncos to a 17-10 triumph over conference rival SUNY Canton. Two of Bieber’s goals were unassisted, and he also scooped up two ground balls. SUNY Delhi was picked second in the NAC men’s lacrosse preseason poll while SUNY Canton was tied for third.
