Husson claims 2022 NAC Men’s Golf Championship; King earns medalist honors

OAKLAND, Maine – Defending North Atlantic Conference (NAC) champion Husson University held on to a nine-stroke lead after day one of competition to capture its second consecutive NAC Men’s Golf Championship, on Sunday afternoon at the Waterville Country Club.
 
The Eagles combined for 292 on Saturday and 298 on Sunday, for a 36-hole total of 590 (+30). All five Eagles placed inside the top-10, including 2022 NAC Championship medalist Jack King. King fired a 36-hole total of 142 (+2), including a 69 in Sunday’s final round on the par 70, 6,107-yard Waterville Country Club course.
 
SUNY Canton placed second with a combined total of 608 (301, 307), landing two players within the top-10. Thomas Christoffersen led SUNY Delhi to a third-place team finish with a 625 (309, 316), while finishing second on the individual leaderboard.
  Thomas came in fourth with a score of 630 (316, 314) with one golfer within the top-10. UMaine-Farmington placed fifth with a 647 (329, 318), led by third-place finisher Ryan Sargent. SUNY Poly finished sixth after firing a 672 (342, 330), with Maine Maritime right behind in seventh with a 674 (335, 339).
 
Northern Vermont-Johnson took eighth after carding a 675 (342, 333), while SUNY Cobleskill came in ninth with 697 (352, 345), each landing one golfer inside the top-10. Cazenovia came in tenth with 727 (362, 365), while UMaine-Presque Isle rounded out the championship in 11th with a score of 729 (357, 372).
 
On the individual leaderboard, SUNY Delhi’s Christoffersen (72-71 – 143, +3) and UMaine-Farmington’s Ryan Sargent (74-72 – 146, +6) finished behind King in second and third place respectively, followed by Thomas’ Dylan Cunningham (75-72 – 147, +7) and SUNY Canton’s Adam Szlamczynski (75-72 – 147, +7) tied for fourth. Husson’s Will Kavanaugh &2-76 – 148, +8) and SUNY Canton’s Anthony Marion (69-79  148, +8) were tied for sixth place on the individual standings. All were named First Team All-NAC, in addition to King.
 
As the top performing rookie in the championship, SUNY Canton’s Marion received Rookie of the Year honors.
 
Michael Amendola combined for a total 149 (75-74, +9) for NVU-Johnson, and was named to the Second Team All-NAC squad. Joining Amendola on the Second Team were Husson golfers Chris Kauppila, Max Woodman, and Cade Charron, all tied at ninth on the individual leaderboard with a two-day score of 151 (+11). They were joined by SUNY Cobleskill’s Josh House, who also fired a 151.
 
Eric Perricelli was the low scorer for SUNY Poly with 162 (83, 79), while Brody Hathorne led the Mariners with 164 (78, 86). Richard Reilly carded a 165 (84, 81) for Cazenovia, while Matt Randall scored a 180 (87, 93) for UMaine-Presque Isle.
