Thomas men, Husson women claim NAC Outdoor Track and Field championships

WATERVILLE, Maine – Thomas College men’s track & field captured its first North Atlantic Conference outdoor title while Husson University won the NAC women’s track & field crown for the second consecutive year and fourth time in program history, at the 2023 NAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships which concluded Sunday at Colby College’s Alfond Track.

The Terriers won their first NAC championship in program history, finishing with a score of 166.50. The Terriers took first place in four events throughout the weekend. SUNY Delhi, who won the 2022 championship, finished second with 162.50 points. The University of Maine at Farmington placed third with 147 points.

Six new meet records were placed at the 2023 NAC T&F Championship in the men’s competition, with Thomas’ Jarrod Hooper breaking his previous 2022 record in the 800m run with a time of 1:58.07.

The SUNY Delhi Broncos smashed four NAC records during the meet. Morgan Condon set records in both the 110m hurdles (15.55) and the 400m hurdles (55.49). SUNY Delhi’s Josh Jeffes set a new benchmark in the 400m dash (48.60), and was a part of the Broncos’ record-setting 4x100m relay (42.32) team with Deron Davis, Cristhian Cuevas, and Lorenzo Castro.

SUNY Cobleskill’s Nick Logan set a new NAC record in the 1500m run with a time of 4:02.90.

In the throwing events, UMaine-Presque Isle’s Joseph Tuulima set a new NAC record in the discus throw with a mark of 40.43m, a record that had not been broken since 2017. UMaine-Farmington’s Alixx Canwell eclipsed the NAC record in the hammer throw, hitting his furthest mark of 53.47m on his sixth attempt.

In the NAC women’s track & field meet, Husson scored 234 points in the nineteen-event meet and placed first in seven. The SUNY Delhi Broncos placed second with 135 points, followed by the University of Maine at Farmington with 112 points.

The women’s competition yielded one new NAC record.

SUNY Delhi set a new record in the 4x100m relay with the team of Miranda Colege, Sabrina Richards, Zoe Rodi, and Kadie-Ann Whyte setting a new NAC benchmark in the 4x100m relay (48.90 seconds).
